Academic Support

Most students find themselves in need of academic help at some point in their academic careers. The most important thing is that you identify when you need help and that you do not wait to seek it.

CUNY Assessment Test help

The Academic Support Center (Kiely 227; (718) 997-5670) offers free immersion programs for students needing to pass the reading, writing or math sections of the CUNY Assessment Test. These programs, which run from 10-14 days, are given during the summer and during the January intersession and are sometimes offered during the fall and spring semesters. Contact The Academic Support Center for more information or for information on registering for the program.

Writing Center

The Writing Center (Kiely 232; (718) 997-5676) offers one-on-one in-person and online tutoring and multi-session mini-classes designed to assist students in improving writing skills and learning research techniques. Contact them at the beginning of the semester to register for tutoring or to sign up for mini-classes.

Study Skills

The Academic Support Lab (Kiely 131; (718) 997-5677) offers one-on-one tutoring for Reading and sponsors a workshop series on study skills each semester. The workshops include note taking, vocabulary development, reading textbooks, reading journal articles, organizing information for writing, making oral presentations, taking objective tests, and taking essay tests. Workshops are offered both during free hour and in the evening. Contact the Reading Lab for more information.

Math Lab

The Math Lab (Kiely 331; (718) 997-5859) offers tutoring, and a collection of videotapes (viewable either in the lab or to borrow) on algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus.

Departmental Tutoring

Some departments are able to arrange tutoring sessions with students who request it. See your professor and/or the departmental secretary for information.
