Degree Requirements
In order to graduate from Queens College, students must satisfy requirements set by the College, the City University, and the New York State Board of Regents. The Queens College degree consists of the following requirements:
- Complete at least 120 credits of college-level coursework. Of these,
- No more than 21 credits may be in courses taken under the P/NC option.
- 45 credits must be in residence at Queens College.
- At least 30 of the last 64 credits must be completed at Queens College or the CUNY Graduate Center.
- Pass all parts of the CUNY Assessment Test prior to admission, unless exempt.
- General Education Requirements
i) Satisfy Primary College Competencies requirement: English, Math, Foreign Languages and Physical Education.
ii) Complete the series of LASAR (Liberal Arts and Science Area Requirements) in seven areas that promote intellectual breadth.
- Complete at least one major. A minimum of one-third of the requirements for the major must be taken at Queens College. Individual departments may have additional transfer credit restrictions and grade or grade point average minimum requirements. Click here for a list of our Majors
- Writing Intensive Units: Students entering after fall 1997 must complete three (3) units of Writing Intensive Courses, which can be taken as part of the LASAR or in the Major. These courses are designed with a .W after the course number. One of the following options will fulfill this requirement: Complete a minimum of three writing intensive courses, which can be taken as part of the LASAR or in the Major. - Maintain an overall average of 2.0 or better
- Pass the CUNY Proficiency Exam in three attempts after the completion of 45 credits and prior to graduation.
