Transfer Credit Evaluation Procedures

Queens College will accept a maximum of 75 credits of transfer work toward your Queens College degree. There are four different types of credit evaluation forms. The one(s) that apply to you depend upon the school(s) from which the credit originates.

  1. Admissions Office Evaluations or “Automatic” Evaluation
  2. Faculty Evaluation
  3. International Credentials Evaluation
  4. Non-Accredited Coursework Evaluation

Admissions Office Evaluations or “Automatic” Evaluation

The Queens College Undergraduate Admissions Office automatically evaluates credits for courses completed at any of the following institutions between 1980 and the present.  You will receive your credit evaluation in the mail.

Faculty Evaluations

For courses completed at the colleges listed above prior to 1980, and all other US public and private colleges and universities, transfer credit evaluations must be done by faculty members in each of the departments in which courses were taken.  For example: biology courses taken at those colleges must be evaluated by the Biology Department, math courses by the Mathematics Department, etc.

Faculty members will need to see student copies of your transcripts, course descriptions from your prior school’s bulletin or undergraduate catalog, and your CUNY Assessment Tests scores (if applicable) in order to determine transfer credits.

The Undergraduate Admissions Office holds Transfer Credit Evaluation Programs each semester, whereby academic departments are available to do transfer credit evaluation at one time in one location.  Students can also visit department offices on campus to have their evaluations completed.  Below is a list of departments and their phone numbers.  Please contact the appropriate department for more information about the departmental advisors and their availability for transfer credit evaluations.

International Credentials Evaluation

All credits completed at institutions of higher education outside of the United States follow a 3-step evaluation procedure.

Step 1 – The Queens College Undergraduate Admissions/Transfer Division will review your transcripts in the beginning of your first semester at Queens College in order to determine how the credits you earned at the international institution translate into Queens College academic disciplines.  You will automatically receive this evaluation by mail during your initial semester at the College.

Step 2 – Once you receive the credentials sheet, you must follow the same procedures as for the faculty evaluation.  For example, if the Undergraduate Admissions Office determined that you have earned the equivalent of 9 credits of Sociology and 15 credits of Music, you must go to the Sociology Department and the Music Department to have the credit transferred to a Queens College equivalent course by the faculty member(s) responsible for international evaluations.

Step 3 – Once you have visited all departments indicated on the credentials sheet, you must return to the Undergraduate Admissions/Transfer Division (Jefferson 105) and submit the credentials sheet for final verification by the international credit evaluator.

Evaluation for Work Taken at a Non Accredited or Non-Degree-Granting Institution

Use the form for credits earned at non-accredited or non-degree granting institutions such as career training institutes, police and firefighters academies, yeshivas, and proprietary schools.  Transfer of these credits must be authorized by faculty members in the corresponding academic disciplines and departments, and must correspond to an equivalent Queens College course.  No elective credits will be granted from non-accredited institutions.  A maximum of 18 such credits may be transferred into Queens College.
