David Lahti (Ph.D. Biology, University of Michigan; Ph.D. Philosophy, Whitefield Institute Oxford) has joined the Biology Department as an assistant Professor starting Fall 2009.
Lahti
David Lahti is interested in how complex traits evolve in an ecological context.  Current research involves empirical studies of bird eggs and behavior, and synthetic and theoretical work on topics such as relaxed natural selection, behavioral evolution, and the evolution of human culture.  He conducts field research in New York, New England, and Africa.

Biology Professor John Waldman was awarded two grants from the Hudson River Foundation. These are titled “Genetic Mixed-Stock Analysis of Coastal American Shad Fisheries” and “River Herring Otolith Geochemical Markers to Identify Essential Fish Habitat and Bycatch”. The first grant is headed by Waldman in collaboration with co-PI Isaac Wirgin of NYU. Waldman is co-PI on the second grant in collaboration with PI Karin Limburg of SUNY-ESF and co-PI Simon Thorrold of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
