Program admission requirements and prerequisites: Students are required to hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Applicants are required to provide writing samples on site, and may be asked to participate in focus groups. Students are required to have taken an undergraduate major or concentration of no fewer than 30 credits in one of the liberal arts and sciences. Specializations such as business administration, advertising, sales management, accounting, design, and nursing do not usually meet these requirements. In conformance with NYS requirements for liberal arts and sciences preparation that corresponds to NYS Learning Standards, students must have completed courses in their undergraduate program that encompass the areas indicated on the Liberal Arts and Sciences Prerequisites sheet.
Additional coursework may be required to comply with NYS Learning Standards for Elementary School Teachers; students should check with the Department at time of application. Students who lack some of these foundation courses but meet other admissions requirements may be admitted to the program.
