Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to English Language Learners

The department of Linguistics & Communication Disorders anticipates offering an Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to English Language Learners in the Fall 2008 semester.  The one-year, 21-credit certificate consists of graduate courses in linguistics and applied linguistics, including second language acquisition, the sound and sentence structure of English, and methods and materials of teaching English.  Students in the Advanced Certificate program will carry out their coursework during the fall and spring semesters, and take a practicum in teaching English as a second language in the summer.  Qualified students who complete the Advanced Certificate and who wish to pursue an M.A. in Applied Linguistics at Queens College may be able to transfer the credits earned for the Certificate toward that Master's degree.  Please check this page periodically for further details: http://www.qc.cuny.edu/LCD/ling_advcert.htm.
