Come to the Circulation Desk to learn about restrictions or to register.
What You Need
You must have a campus photo ID with a current validation sticker or valid CUNYCard to borrow materials.
You must activate your ID at the Circulation Desk of your home campus. This will:
- Give you the borrowing privileges to which you are entitled.
- Allow you to use the MY ACCOUNT feature of CUNY+ which includes the ability to renew items online.
Optional Email Notification
Include your email address with your Circulation registration and you can quickly receive Library notices related to your Library transactions. You can receive Courtesy Notices reminding you of your due date 3 days prior. (Please note the Library does not send print overdue notices through the regular mail.) Please be assured that we NEVER share your email address and only use it to send messages related to your Library transactions.
Loan Periods
- QC and CUNY Students:
- 21 day loan period. Pay overdue and other fines.
- QC Full-time Faculty:
- 120 day loan period. Pay recall and lost book fines.
- QC Part-time faculty:
- 120 day loan period. Pay overdue and other fines.
- QC Staff:
- 21 day loan period. Pay overdue and other fines.
- CUNY Faculty (Full and Part-time):
- 28 day loan period. Pay overdue and other fines.
- QC Local patrons & CUNY Staff:
- 21 day loan period. Pay overdue and other fines.
Fines & Service Fees
Due dates are stamped into each book on or near the page facing the rear cover. The Library does not send overdue notices unless you provide a valid email address. It is the patrons responsibility to return materials on time.
- Overdue fines:
- Ten cents per item per day including days when the library is closed.
- Recall and Rush Recall:
- Fifty cents per item per day for recall. One dollar per item per day for a rush recall.
- Lost books:
- Replacement fee: $35.00; Processing fee: $10.00; Max. Overdue fine $10.00.
Processing fee and overdue fine for billed item(s) still apply even if books are returned.
Renewals
- QC library users with a current valid ID may renew items in person or electronically.
- QC faculty and staff may renew material two additional times.
- CUNY students, faculty, staff and other borrowers may renew their items two additional times.
- Certain materials are not renewable.
- To renew in person, Queens College Library material must be presented at the time of renewal.
Renewals will not be granted if:
- The item has a hold/recall.
- The renewal limit has been reached.
- There is a block on the borrower's record.
- The materials are non-renewable
Please note that if a renewal request is not honored because of a hold, a recall will be placed on the item. A recalled item must be returned promptly. HIGHER FINES ACCRUE ON RECALLED ITEMS.
Online Renewals
You may renew your materials online through the MY ACCOUNT feature of CUNY+, CUNY's online catalog. Just click on the MY ACCOUNT link on this page, or click on the MY ACCOUNT tab once you have entered the new CUNY+.
- You must have your Library barcode available.
- First time users, your Barcode and your password is your 14 digit library barcode located on your ID card. Please note you may follow the instruction on the MY ACCOUNT screen about how to change your password.
- After you are in MY ACCOUNT:
- Click on Loans.
- Click on the line # of the item you wish to renew.
- Click on renew.
- The changed due date will show on the screen. No further confirmation message is given.
Phone renewals cannot be accepted.

Returns & Overdues
You may return items through the return slots at the circulation desk. Please note that if the item is overdue and you would like to pay the fine, you must return it directly to the clerk at the Circulation desk. When the Library is closed, you can place materials in the depository located outside the Library's main entrance.
Overdues
Any item overdue for more than seven (7) days will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges until item is returned or renewed.
Holds
You may place a hold on any book that's charged out. When it is returned, you will be notified and the book will be held for you at the circulation desk for ten days.
Other Services and Information
- CUNY Courtesy Service
- You may return books and/or pay overdue fines for items borrowed from other CUNY libraries at the Circulation counter.
- Lost/Stolen ID Cards
- If your QC ID card is lost/stolen, you must notify Campus Security and Circulation. Items borrowed on a lost/stolen card are your responsibility until you report the loss/theft.
- Search Requests and Holds
- If an item is not on the shelf and you have not found an item in the sorting room on Level IV, you may request a search be done to locate the material. You may also place a hold on an item borrowed by another patron. A notice will be sent to you when the item is located/returned.
- Hold shelf
- You may place circulating material on the 3-day hold shelf if you are unable to borrow upon leaving the Library.
- Theses
- Queens College theses can be paged from 9:00am–4:45pm Monday through Friday at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. Library patrons who need to view theses at alternate times, including weekends and evenings, need to call the desk ahead of time with proper citation information. Call 718-997-3702 and the item requested will be put on the hold shelf for in-house viewing.
