Facilities & Equipment
The Music Library contains the following equipment for patrons to use.
The Music Library has eighteen public computers. Two are located on the main floor between reference and periodicals while sixteen additional computers are located on the bottom floor. Students can access all Queens College and CUNY catalogs and resources as well as the Internet. The sixteen computers downstairs can play CDs and DVDs, have Finale and Sibelius software programs installed for use, and two computers have MIDI-Keyboards.
The bottom floor also has eight stations without computers – at each of these, two electrical outlets and one Ethernet port (cable not included) are made available for patrons who choose to bring their own laptops.
While students are welcome to check their email and surf the web on these computers priority needs to be given to patrons who are doing research.
Printers and Photocopiers
Network Printing and Copying services are being managed by the Office of Converging Technologies. Please see OCT's FAQ about using printing services on campus, and contact the OCT help desk (x74444) with any issues.
A pay-to-print station is located on the bottom floor. Current students, staff, and faculty can print items from any computer in the Music Library to this station. You will be required to create a password to retrieve your materials at the pay-to-print station. Once you have sent all materials you require to the printer, you will need to log into the pay-to-print station and pay prior to receiving your printed materials. A Q-Card (college ID) is required to pay for printing. To add money to your ID, go to the Q-Card Office.
A photocopier is located on the main floor of the Music Library. The main floor photocopier is in the copy room and uses Q-Cards (college ID) to pay for copies. To add money to your ID, go to the Q-Card Office. The photocopier will also allow a patron to send scans to an email inbox, free of charge.
Listening and Viewing Stations
In addition to our computers, which are all capable of playing CDs and DVDs, the Music Library also has a number of listening stations that allow patrons to listen to cassettes and LPs. These listening and viewing stations are located on the bottom floor, sharing cubicle space with four of the computers. There are two tape decks, two LP players, and two VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray players. Patrons can check out headphones at the circulation desk or use their own.
Group Viewing and Study Room
The Group Viewing and Study Room is located on the bottom floor in room 125b. This room has the ability to utilize all mediums of audio and video for group instruction and study. A member of the Music Library staff must unlock the door for patrons to use the room. To keep noise pollution in the rest of the library to a minimum, patrons must use the wireless headphones provided for use in the room. At the present time, eight headphones are available.
Microfilm and microfiche can be read, scanned, and printed in the Music Library. A machine that reads and prints from both microfilm and microfiche is located on the main floor. A Q-Card (college ID) is required to pay for scans or copies. To add money to your ID, go to the Q-Card Office.
