Biography:

Professor Jorge Alves specializes in comparative politics, specifically on subnational politics, intergovernmental relations, state capacity construction and the political economy of development, with a regional focus on Latin America and Brazil.

His work on Brazilian subnational politics has been published in Comparative Politics (forthcoming) and Latin American Politics and Society. He has a chapter on public transparency advances in Brazil in Open Budgets: The Political Economy of Transparency, Participation and Accountability (Brookings Press, 2014).
