Baseball - 5/7/08


Knights ace hurler Brian Honeyman has been chosen 2008 East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year in a consensus of the conference's head baseball coaches. Honeyman was also named first team all-ECC while teammate Jamie Quinn earned third team honors as a first baseman.

Brian posted a 6-0 record with three saves and a 2.20 earned run average in 14 appearances for QC this season. He also pitched six complete games, including two shutouts, and struck out 64 batters in 57.1 innings of work while earning two ECC Pitcher of the Week awards.

Quinn batted .293 in 27 games and tied for the team lead with 19 RBI's and seven doubles. He also stole six bases.

Men's and Women's Tennis - 5/1/08


Both the Knights and Lady Knights tennis teams received their travel orders on Wednesday for their trips to the 2008 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships. The men are headed for Stonehill College (18-6) where they will face the host institution in the 46th annual Division II Championships while the women are off to Pennsylvania where they will take on Bloomsburg University (14-6) in the 27th annual Women's Division II Championships. Both matches are set for Thursday, May 8th.

If the Knights advance they will face the winner of the Concordia College / Philadelphia University match for a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. If the Lady Knights get past Bloomsburg, they will have to beat the winner of the California, Pa. / St. Michael's match in order to advance to the round of 16.

Men's Tennis, Baseball - 4/3/08

Two Knights' tennis players and one baseball player were named winners of ECC weekly awards for their play from March 31st through April 6th. Doubles partners Fabio Minami and David Burstein were selected as the conference's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Knights' hurler Brian Honeyman was chosen Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive time.

Minami, who received last week's Rookie of the Week nod, was 3-0 in both #2 singles and #2 doubles in a 2-1 week for Queens College. Burstein, who was unbeaten in three matches in #3 singles and #2 doubles for QC, was the winner of the Player of the Week award three weeks ago.

Senior Brian Honeyman went 1-0 with one save and a perfect 0.00 ERA for the Knights in two appearances. He began the week with a save on Tuesday by pitching a one, two, three ninth inning in QC's 4-2 win at C.W. Post. On Saturday, Honeyman threw a complete game, four hitter in a 4-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College. He also fanned 10 and the two runs scored against him were unearned.

Softball, Baseball - 3/24/08


Katie Karpinski was named ECC Softball Co-Player of the Week and Brian Honeyman was chosen ECC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The lady Knights won three of four this past week while the Knights were 2-1, including a sweep of Dowling College over the weekend.

Karpinski hit .588 with 6 RBI and 5 runs scored in the three games in which she appeared this past week. In a sweep of Concordia she went 7 for 9, including 5 for 5 with 5 RBI in the nightcap.

Honeyman picked up the save in game one and the win in game two in a sweep of Dowling on Saturday. He pitched a one, two, three ninth in in the opener and a complete game four hitter with 7 punch outs in the nightcap.

Women's Basketball - 3/5/08


In what had to be considered a forgone conclusion, Amanda Bartlett has been selected as the 2007-08 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. The native of Mesa, Arizona was also the lone Lady Knight to be named all-conference as she was chosen first team all-ECC. Lady Knights head coach Tom Flahive was also selected by his peers as ECC Coach of the Year.

Bartlett won or shared nine ECC Rookie of the Week awards this past season in leading Queens College to a sixth place finish and a playoff berth. For the week of January 21st through the 27th, Amanda swept the ECC Player, Rookie and ECAC Player of the Week awards.

Flahive, in his fourth season at the helm of the Lady Knights, led his team to a 14-14 record overall and a 12-8 record in ECC play, good for sixth place. He engineered a remarkable turnaround from last season when QC was 6-21.

Basketball - 3/5/08

Maurice Fitzgerald Gymnasium, on the campus of Queens College, will play host to the 2008 East Coast Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, beginning on Saturday, March 8th. QC last hosted the Championships in 2002 when the Knights captured the NYCAC Men's Basketball title.

Men's and Women's semifinal games are scheduled for March 8th. The women's games tip-off at 12 and 2:30 pm while the men will take the court at 5 and 7:30. The winners of the women's semifinals will vie for the championship on Sunday, March 9th, with game time scheduled for 12:00 pm. The men will then take the court to crown a champion, with a scheduled starting time of 3:00 pm.

Tickets are priced at $5 for adults and $2 for students with valid ID's. Students from Final Four schools with the proper identification will be admitted free of charge.

Women's Swimming - 2/27/08



Junior diver Derina Wilson led a list of eight Lady Knights that earned all-conference honors at the 2008 Metropolitan Swimming Championships, held this past weekend at Rutgers University. As a team, Queens College finished 12th out of 19.

Wilson, a native of Islip, New York, earned all-conference honors by finishing 8th in one meter diving. Monalisa Ribeiro and Carole Parent earned individual Honorable Mention all-conference accolades as Ribeiro placed 16th in the 100 breastroke and Parent was 14th in one meter diving.

Ribeiro, along with Rory Church, Rachel Walter, Brittany Schuler, Carla Cruz and Val Varpakhovic also were named Honorable Mention all-conference as the Lady Knights finished 13th in the 200 Freestyle relay, 10th in the 800 Free relay, 11th in the 400 Medley relay, 9th in the 400 Freestyle relay and 13th in the 200 Medley relay.

Women's Basketball - 2/25/08



Louisville, Kentucky native Jennifer Robbins and fellow Lady Knight Amanda Bartlett have been named East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, in helping QC to a 1-1 week. Robbins averaged nine points, 19 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game while Bartlett scored 43 points in two games this past week.

In a 63-60 loss to Adelphi, Bartlett scored a game high 24 points while Robbins added eight points, 18 boards and four blocks. Three days later Robbins dominated the paint with 10 points and career highs of 20 rebounds and seven rejections in a 61-55 win over NYIT. In that come from behind victory, Bartlett made two straight baskets to put QC ahead, 51-50. Then, after two Tech free throws, she put Queens College up for good with a three ball at the 1:23 mark, followed by a lay up and a free throw to give QC a 57-51 advantage with 29.7 ticks left on the clock. Her final points of the game came from the foul line, putting the Lady Knights ahead 59-53 and giving her 12 straight points for QC.

Women's Basketball - 1/28/08


Queens College's Amanda Bartlett made a clean sweep of the East Coast Conference's weekly women's basketball awards by being named both Player and Rookie of the Week for games from January 21st through the 27th. The Player of the Week award is the first of Amanda's career and the Rookie award marks the fifth time that she has won or shared it in this, her freshman season at QC.

Bartlett averaged 26 points, four rebounds, 4.5 assists and one steal in a 2-0 week for the Lady Knights. She notched 15 points, including six in a 10-0 run that erased an eight point deficit with four minutes to go, in QC's 66-62 win at Dowling. Amanda followed that up with a career high 37 point performance in the Lady Knights 83-69 victory over Mercy College in Westchester.

The Mesa, Arizona native was also named ECAC Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Men's Basketball - 1/7/08


Knights guard Maalik Oliver has been selected East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his efforts over the last seven days. Oliver averaged 17.5 points per game in helping Queens College split a pair of two point decisions at the 2nd annual Jim Clancy Tournament, hosted by Dominican College.

Maalik scored 18 points, including a basket with 1:25 remaining in the game that gave QC the lead for good in a 74-72 win over their hosts on January 2nd. The very next day he added 17 points in a 69-67 loss to Caldwell College.

Khaleef Allicott was also named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association's Weekly Honor Roll. He had 22 points, eight boards, six assists and six steals in the win over Domonican and 17 points in the loss to Caldwell.

Men's Basketball - 12/24/07


Junior forward Mike Liander and freshman Terrell Simmons have earned East Coast Conference basketball honors for the week ending on December 23rd. Liander was named co-Player of the Week while Simmons won the Rookie of the Week award.

Liander, who was also named co-Player of the Week in November, poured in 29 points and collected eight rebounds in the Knights' 78-68 loss to Assumption College on the 20th of December. Simmons scored all 10 of his points in the second half of that game and added seven rebounds in earning his award.

Women's Basketball - 12/3/07


Once again Queens College freshman Amanda Bartlett has been named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. This makes it three weeks in a row that the Mesa, Arizona native has captured the award. She was also named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Honor Roll for her performances over the last seven days.

Bartlett averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in guiding the Lady Knights to a split of their games for the week. In a 77-66 loss at Georgian Court University, Amanda poured in a game high 30 points, grabbed three rebounds, handed out three assists and connected of four of five from three point land while shooting 11 of 19 overall. Two days later Amanda helped QC to a 87-75 win over Mercy College with 19 points, seven boards, five assists and two steals.

Basketball - 11/19/07


Three QC basketball players earned weekly honors from the East Coast Conference for their efforts in the opening weekend of the 2007-2008 campaign. Knights' junior forward Mike Liander was picked as Co-Player of the Week while teammate Lamont Lans was chosen as Rookie of the Week. For the women, Mesa, Arizona native Amanda Bartlett earned a share of the conference's Rookie of the Week award.

Liander opened the season with 24 points and seven rebounds and connected on 10 of 18 from the field against Stonehill College on Friday in the NYIT Tip-Off Classic. The next afternoon he scored 20 more points and grabbed seven more boards versus Bloomfield. Lans averaged 13 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in those two games as well, including 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals against Bloomfield.

Bartlett made an auspitious debut for the Lady Knights on Sunday against Wilmington University. The 5'7" guard scored 26 of her team's 74 points, converted on four of 10 three pointers and handed out nine assists in a 94-74 loss.

Tennis - 11/14/07


FILA has announced its' Divison II ITA East Regional rankings for both men's and women's tennis and Queens College is on both lists. The 2007 East Coast Conference Champion Lady Knights are sitting third in the East while their counterparts on the men's side are eighth in the region.

California, Pa. and Slippery Rock occupy the first two slots ahead of the Lady Knights in the regional rankings. Additionally, freshman standout Laura Mocodeanu is ranked 12th in women's singles in the East.
