5/08/08

Taylor Crabill defeated Michael Mashkevich 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the Knights 5-3 victory over host institution Stonehill College in the NCAA Division II East Regionals on Thursday. QC advances to play Concordia College at 11:00 am on Friday.

The Knights fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition with their only point coming from a 8-6 win at second doubles by the duo of Fabio Minami and David Burstein. QC went on to win the match by taking second, fourth and sixth singles. Crabill posted the win at the four spot while Minami defeated Mike Leone, 6-1 and 6-1 at second singles and Ariel Nassim beat John McGaffigan, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at sixth singles.

Knights standout Fabio Minami has been named the 2008 recipient of the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year Award by the conference's head coaches. Along with his Rookie of the Year Award, Fabio was named first team all-ECC while his doubles partner, David Burstein, was elected to the second team.

Minami, a native of Sao Bernardo de Campo, posted a 13-2 record in singles play in 2008, including a 7-0 mark at #2 singles. He also combined with Burstein to win 11 of 16 doubles matches, including a mark of 11-3 at the two spot.

In old news, Robby Scheuing won the last ECC Rookie of the Week award of 2008 for play from April 21st through the 27th. Robby sealed the deal for the Knights in their ECC semifinal victory over Mercy College with a 6-2, 6-1 singles win. He also teamed with Ariel Nassim in third doubles to gain QC their only point in a 5-1 loss to Concordia in the ECC finals.

The Knights aced Caldwell College, 9-0, in Caldwell, New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. With the win, QC completes their regular season slate winners of 10 of thir last 12.

Fabio Minami, David Burstein, Taylor Crabill, Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim all won their singles matches by the score of 8-0.

Concordia College captured the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship with a 5-1 win over Queens College in Bronxville, New York on Wednesday afternoon. The loss ended QC's seven game winning streak.

The third doubles team of Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassin posted a 8-5 victory, the Knights' only win of the afternoon.

After completing their regular season schedule at Caldwell on Saturday, the Knights will have to wait until next week to see if they are one of the teams that have earned a bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament.

Queens College advanced to the East Coast Conference Team Championship match by edging Mercy College, 5-4, in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. Next up for the Knights are the Clippers from Concordia College, who defeated Adelphi University, 5-1, earlier in the day.

Robby Scheuing sealed the deal for QC by beating Christian Cheque of Mercy, 6-2 and 6-1 in fifth singles. Fabio Minami bested Zeki Tukel, 6-4 an 6-4 in #1 singles and Taylor Crabill posted a 6-4, 6-3, third singles win over Yusfcam Koksal to help propel the Knights into the finals.

In other news, freshman David Burstein was named ECC Rookie of the Week for his part in wins over Millersville and STAC. Burstein did not lose a game in singles competition and combined with Fabio Minami to post two wins in second this past week.

David Burstein and Ariel Nassim did not lose a game in singles or doubles in the Knights' 8-1 win at St.Thomas Aquinas College on Friday. Burstein won 8-0 at third singles and combined with Fabio Minami to post an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. Nassim did the same at #6 singles and teamed with Robby Scheuing to win at third doubles, 8-0.

With the win QC finishes their ECC schedule in second place with a record of four wins and one defeat. Next up for the Knights is third place Mercy College on Tuesday at QC in one of two ECC semifinal match-ups.

Fabio Minami was named co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week by the East Coast Conference on Monday evening. Earlier in the day he won at second singles, 6-1, 6-2 and teamed with David Burstein to post a 8-3 win at second doubles in the Knights 7-2 win at Millersville University.

David Burstein was also instrumental in the win at Millersville, winning his singles match without dropping a point. Taylor Crabill, Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassin added singles victories with Scheuing and Nassin combining for a 8-4 doubles win to help Queens College overcome a 1-4 start to their season to improve to 8-5.

This week's awards mark the second consecutive Player of the Week nod for Minami as well as the second time this season he has captured the Rookie award. He was 3-0 in both singles and doubles play this past in helping Queens College to victories over Bloomfield, Mercy and Dowling.

Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim breezed to wins at 5th and 6th singles to help the Knights to a 7-2 victory over Dowling College on Sunday afternoon in Flushing. Scheuing posted a 6-0, 6-1 win and Nassim won, 6-0, 6-0 after the two paired up for a 8-1 win at third doubles earlier in the day.

Fabio Minami and David Burstein also continued their fine play as each won their singles matches, 6-1, 6-2. The two also combined for an 8-2 victory at second doubles. Taylor Crabill pitched in with a 6-0, 7-6 (8) victory at 4th singles to help QC to their fourth consecutive win.

Fabio Minami and David Burstein won their singles matches and teamed to win at second doubles, 8-6, in a 5-4 Knights win over Mercy College in Flushing on Saturday afternoon. For QC, it was their third consecutive victory and the fifth in their last six times out.

Minami posted a 6-2, 7-5 win at #2 singles, Burstein added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #3 singles and Ariel Nassim won 6-2, 6-0 at sixth singles as QC split the six singles matches with Mercy. Robby Scheuing and Nassim also combined for a 8-4 win at third doubles to help the Knights improve to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in ECC play.

Queens College evened their record at 5-5 by defeating Bloomfield College, 9-0, in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon. For the Knights it was their fourth win in their last five outings.

Fabio Minami, David Burstein, Taylor Crabill, Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim all won their singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Marcelo Kim bested his opponent, 6-2, 6-2. QC also won all three doubles macthes, 8-1, 8-0 and 8-1.

The doubles matches made the difference on Sunday in the Knights 5-4 win over NYU on Sunday at the National Tennis Center. QC won at second and third doubles while splitting six singles matches en route to their win.

Fabio Minami and David Burstein paired to win at second doubles, 9-7, while Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim posted a 8-1 victory at third doubles for QC to start the day. Minami, Burstein and Scheuing also added wins at #2, #3 and #5 singles for the Knights.

Bryant University edged the Knights, 5-4, in Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon. Queens College began the match ranked sixth in the region while Bryant came in at number three.

After Bryant took two of three doubles matches, QC responded to tie the score at 4 apiece with wins at 2nd, 3rd and 6th singles. Fabio Minami continued to pile up the wins with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #2 singles. Robby Scheuing nearly pulled it out for the Knights at 5th singles, but lost a marathon, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 0-1 (6-10).

Knights freshmen Fabio Minami and David Burstein led Queens College to their first conference victory of the season, a 5-4 win over Adelphi University in Flushing on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams split the six singles matches but QC held a two to one advantage at doubles to post the victory.

Minami and Burstein combined to take their #2 doubles match, 8-6 while Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim made the difference with a 8-5 win at third doubles. Minami posted a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) victory at second singles, Burstein won 6-2 and 6-0 at third singles and Nassim added a 6-4, 6-3 win at sixth singles for QC.

Freshman Fabio Minami became the third Knight this season to be honored by the East Coast Conference when he was named Rookie of the Week on Monday evening. Two weeks ago, David Burstein and Taylor Crabill were selected as Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the ECC.

Minami played a big role in the Knights' defeat of 28th ranked Kutztown University on their own turf last Saturday afternoon. He posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #2 singles and teamed with Burstein to win at #2 doubles, 8-2.

The Knights defeated 28th ranked Kutztown, 6-3, in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. QC lost two of three doubles matches but rebounded to take four of the six singles match-ups.

Fabio Minami continued his strong play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles while his doubles partner, David Burstein, picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory at third singles. The two also combined to win at second doubles, 8-2.

Taylor Crabill, Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim also were winners in singles for QC.

3/20,22/08

Freshman Fabio Minami was the bright spot for QC in two losses on the road over the past three days. The Knights lost to Division I Fairfield University, 6-1, on Thursday and then dropped their ECC opener at Concordia, 8-1, on Saturday.

Minami won at third singles, 6-1 and 6-4 and combined with David Burstein to post an 8-6 win at #2 doubles on Thursday. At Concordia, he won once again at third singles (6-4, 6-4) but lost at second doubles, 8-6.

The Knights made a clean sweep of the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis awards for the week of March 10th. David Burstein was named by the league office as its' Player of the Week award winner while Taylor Crabill was selected Rookie of the Week.

Burstein posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at second singles and teamed with Fabio Minami to win his #2 doubles match, 8-1 against Farmingdale State on Friday. Crabill did not lose a game at fourth singles and won at first singles, 8-3, against Farmingdale.

The Knights whitewashed Farmingdale State, 9-0, in Flushing on Friday afternoon. The victory was Craig Schwartz's first as Queens College Men's Tennis Coach.

QC won all six of their singles matches in straight sets. Taylor Crabill posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles while Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim lost just one game in winning at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Concordia College defeated Queens College, 5-0, in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Team Championships on Friday in Bronxville, New York. The Knights played without their #1 singles and #1 doubles player, Wojciech Stuchlik, who missed his thrid straight match.

The Knights, playing for the second straight day without their their top player, Wojciech Stuchlik, lost to Concordia College, 7-2. Queens completes their regular season schedule 9-6 overall and 2-3 in ECC matches.

Once again Billy Almeyda filled in at the #1 singles spot and once again he was victorious. Today, he won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 while Jimmy Delevante posted a 6-4, 2-6 10-8 win at third singles.

Mercy College defeated the Knights, 8-1, in an ECC match played on the courts of Queens College. The loss drops QC to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Billy Almeyda, who filled in at the #1 spot for a sick Wojciech Stuchlik, rallied to win in three sets. His win was the only one that the Knights could produce on the day.

The Knights did not lose a set in defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College, 9-0, on Tuesday on the Queens College courts. In fact, Queens only lost six games in improving to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play.

Wojciech Stuchlik and Costas Efstathiou each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 in the QC win. The Knights also won their doubles matches 8-1, 8-0 and 8-0.

Freshman Arthur Hainline has been named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on April 2nd. Arhtur helped the Knights to a win over conference rival Adelphi as well as victories over Hofstra and Chowan at the Hampton Roads Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Hainline began the week with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Adelphi's Alex Pildes in fifth singles and teamed with Jimmy Delevante to post an 8-5 win in #2 doubles over AU's Nenad Radokovic and Matt Wacks. Later in the week he won 7-6 (2), 2-6 10-7 in singles versus Hofstra and 6-0, 6-0 against Chowan.

The final score might be a bit misleading in the Knights' 5-1 win over Hofstra University in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday. Four of the five singles matches that were played were decided by a third set tiebreaker while the sixth was won by default. No doubles matches were played.

The only singles match-up that required only two sets was at #4 singles as QC's Jimmy Delevante bested Tal Alexander of Hofstra, 6-4, 6-1. Wojciech Stuchlik, Costas Efstathiou and Arthur Hainline took a little longer than Delevante but each won their singles matches as well while Faiz Uzzman was declared the winner at #6 singles by default.

The Knights kicked off their 2007 East Coast Conference slate by beating Adelphi University, 8-1, in Garden City on Tuesday. Queens swept the doubles matches and won five of the six singles contests in improving to 6-1 overall this spring.

Three of the five Knights singles wins came in straight sets. Wojciech Stuchlik won at the one, 6-2, 6-1, Costas Efstathiou was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at the three and the five spot went to Athur Hainline, 6-2, 6-1.

Queens rallied after losing two of three in doubles to defeat Bryant University, 6-3, in Flushing on Saturday. Wojciech Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda once again led the way for the Knights, each winning their singles matches while also teaming up to win at first doubles.

At first singles, Stuchlik posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory while Almeyda won at the two spot, 6-3, 6-1. They both combined for an 8-0 win in doubles. Costas Efstathiou and Arhtur Hainline also posted straight set wins at the three and five spots, respectively.

Wojciech Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda each won their singles matches and combined for a victory at first doubles to help the Knights beat New York University, 5-4, in Flushing on Friday afternoon. With the win, Queens improves to 4-1 for the spring season.

Both the duos of Stuchlik and Almeyda and the second pairing of Jimmy Delevante and Arthur Hainline bested NYU 8-3 in giving QC a 2-1 lead after doubles action was complete. Stuchlik, Almeyda and Costas Efstathiou then won at first, second and third doubles to wrap up the win for the Knights.

The Knights only lost two points in defeating Bloomfield College, 9-0, in Flushing on Friday. With the win Queens improves to 3-1 for the spring of 2007.

Wojciech Stuchlik, Billy Almeyda, Costas Efstathiou and Jimmny Delevante all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0, while Arthur Hainline and newcomer Faiz Uzzaman won at the fifth and sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. QC added 8-0 wins in all three doubles matches on their way to a 9-0 victory.

2007 Pre-season ECC Player of the Year selection Wojciech Stuchlik lived up to expectations on Sunday when he captured the first singles title at the East Coast Conference Flight Championships held at Queens College. Stuchlik also combined with teammate Billy Almeyda to win the first doubles championship.

Stuchlik, who is ranked ninth in Divison II, defeated Gustavo Sanchez of Dowling College, 6-4, 6-2, in the first singles title match. He and Almeyda won the #1 doubles crown by beating Sanchez and Jose Gomez of Dowling, 8-2.

Wojciech Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda won at first and second singles and combined for a win at first doubles to lead the Knights to a 6-3 win over the University of Connecticut in the Queens College Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. Ninth ranked Stuchlik beat Ben Schueler of UConn 6-0, 6-1 at first singles while Almeyda posted a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at second singles.

Stuchlik and Almeyda started the day with an 8-5 win at #1 doubles, QC's only win in doubles for the day. Costas Efstathiou, Jimmy Delevante and Arthur Hainline also won at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, for Queens as they improved to 2-1 on the young season.

FDU- Teaneck edged the Knights, 5-4, on Friday afternoon in Flushing. The loss evens QC's spring record at 1-1. Queens had beaten Monmouth College 8-1 seven days earlier.

Billy Almeyda, Lucas Moraes and Chris Efstathiou won at second, third and fourth singles in straight sets but only Wojciech Stuchlik and Almeyda were able to win their doubles match.

In the season opening victory over Monmouth, Queens swept all three of their doubles matches. Arthur Heinline's come from behind 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at the six spot was the highlight of the singles competition in which QC won five of six.

The 2007 spring season is shaping up to be one for the books for Queens College Men's Tennis. The team, along with some of its' members, figures prominently in the regional and national rankings.

Nationally, the Knights are currently ranked 34th with the reigning ITA East Regional Singles Champion, Wojciech Stuchlik, filling the 9th spot. Wojciech and Billy Almeyda also are ranked ninth nationally in doubles.

In the region Queens, led by the #1 rated Stuchlik, trails only Concordia College in the rankings. Andrey Vasiliev and Almeyda also appear in the rankings at sixth and 14th, respectively, while the doubles tandem of Stuchlik and Almeyda occupy the second spot.

On Monday, Wojciech Stuchlik did something no other Knights men's tennis player has done before when he captured the ITA East Regional Singles Championship, hosted by Bloomsburg University. Wojciech defeated Santiago Baquerizo of Kutztown University 7-6 (4), 6-0 to take home the title.

Stuchlik reached the finals by beating Vyacheslav Glebov of Mercy College, 6-0, 3-6, 10-3 in the semis. Baquerizo got a measure of revenge however when he teamed with Lukas Labitsch to upend Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda in the doubles finals.

Queens College advanced past Bentley in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis East Regional held at Kutztown University. The Knights won in five straight matches to ice the victory and move on to the winner of this afternoon’s match, Kutztown University, who defeated Dowling College 5-1.

Queens’ William Almeyda (so. Puerto Rico/Cass) and Wojclech Stuchlik (jr. Pszczyna, Poland) won in first doubles, 8-3. Ricardo Yepes (sr. Bogota, Colombia) and Andrey Vasiliev (sr. Novosibirsk, Russia) picked up the win for the Knights at second doubles, 8-1, while Jimmy Delevante (jr. Commack, NY/Commack) and Alfredo Perez (sr. Caracas, Venezuela/Santiago) won third doubles, 8-4, to put Queens up 3-0.

Stuchlik, playing at first singles, locked in the fourth point of the match and the first singles point, winning 6-0, 6-1. Almeyda iced the match for his team just a few points later, scoring the fifth point in fourth singles and ending the match, 6-3, 6-2.

The Queens College Men's Tennis team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tennis Championships for the fifth consecutive year and will face Bentley College in the Regionals on Thursday, May 4th at Kutztown University. Queens, which is led by NYCAC Player of the Year Wojciech Stuchlik, enters the match winners of 19 of 22 while Bentley sports a record of 16-11. If the Knights get past Bentley they will face the winner of the Kutztown / Dowling match on Friday for the Regional Championship and a spot in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, which will be held in Kansas City from May 10th through the 13th.

Concordia College rallied to win four of the six singles matches to take the NYCAC crown from Queens, 5-4, in Flushing on Friday. Next up for the Knights will be the NCAA Regionals, which will begin on May 4th or 5th. QC was ranked third in the region back on April 19th.

Queens jumped out to a 2-1 lead after winning at first and second doubles. Wojciech Stuchlik teamed with Billy Almeyda to post a 8-4 win at the one spot while Ricardo Yepes and Andrey Vasiliev won at the two spot, 8-5, to give Queens the lead after doubles play. Stuchlik, the NYCAC Player of the Year, and Vasiliev then proceded to win at first and second singles but Concordia recorded three set victories at the three, four and five spots and a straight sets win at the six to take the conference title.

Andrey Vasiliev won at #2 singles and teamed with Ricardo Yepes to post a 8-4 victory at second doubles as the Knights defeated Dowling College, 5-0, in the NYCAC Team Semifinals at Queens College on Thursday. With the win the Knights advance to the finals on Friday where they will face Concordia College. Concordia reached the finals by downing Mercy College 5-0.

Wojciech Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda, the 23rd ranked doubles team in the country, beat Gustavo Sanchez and Willem Rensburg 8-1 in first doubles to help QC to the win. Queens won third doubles and sixth singles by default.

Concordia won the first meeting between the teams, 5-4, back on April 2nd in Bronxville.

The Knights clinched the NYCAC regular season title by defeating Mercy College, 7-2, in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. Queens, Mercy and Concordia College all finished their 2006 conference schedules with identical 5-1 records but the Knights were named champions on the basis of a tiebreaker.

QC took control of the match by winning all three of the doubles contests. Costas Efstathiou was one of four Knights to win his singles match, winning at the five spot 7-5, 6-0.

Next up for Queens will be fourth seeded Dowling College, who were 3-3 in conference play. The two teams will meet in Queens on Thursday with the winner advancing to the NYCAC Finals on Friday to face the winner of the Concordia / Mercy match. QC beat DC 6-3 back on March 29th while Mercy defeated Concordia in the two teams only meeting of 2006.

Costas Efstathiou won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles as the Knights defeated visiting Philadelphia University 9-0 on Monday. Queens lost only 11 games in nine matches in the win and have now won seven matches by the score of 9-0, including each of their last three.

Andrey Vasiliev and Jimmy Delevante won their singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores while Alfredo Perez won his match 6-1, 6-0. Perez and Delevante also combined to shut out their opponents in third doubles, 8-0.

Queens completed their non-conference schedule with a 9-0 win over visiting Bloomsburg University on Saturday.

The Knights won five of their six singles matches in straight sets with Jimmy Delevante and Billy Almeyda losing only one game apiece in the process while Costas Efstatiou only lost two. Andrey Vasiliev and Ricardo Yepes also won in straight sets while 37th ranked Wojciech Stuchlik rallied from a first set defeat to win his match at the one spot.

The Knights swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches in beating Adelphi University, 8-1, on Sunday. Queens is now 3-1 in conference and 13-2 overall.

Wojciech Stuchlik won 6-1, 6-0 at #1 singles and Andrey Vasiliev won 6-0, 6-3 at the two spot to help key the victory. Queens won 8-1, 8-5 and 8-6 in doubles and also was triumphant at #4, 5 and 6 singles.

Concordia College defeated the Knights 5-4 in Bronxville, New York on Sunday afternoon. The two team split the six singles matches but Concordia won at #2 and #3 singles to tip the scales in their favor.

Wojciech Stuchlik continued to play well for Queens, defeating 45th ranked Rodrigo Teixeira 6-4, 6-4 in singles. He also teamed with Billy Almeyda to win at #1 doubles, 8-4.

The Knights lost only nine games in nine matches as they defeated Caldwell College, 9-0, in Flushing on Thursday. Queens has now won five straight and 12 of 13 in the spring.

Andrey Vasiliev, Billy Almeyda, Costas Efstathiou and Jimmy Delevante each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 while the 24th ranked doubles tandem of Wojciech Stuchlik and Almeyda dispatched their opponents 8-0 in first doubles.

Wojciech Stuchlik defeated 48th ranked Gustavo Sanchez 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 to lead Queens to a 6-3 victory over Dowling College in a NYCAC match-up contested in Flushing on Wednesday. With the win, Queens improves to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Stuchlik, who moved up three spots in the rankings to #40, teamed with NYCAC Player of the Week Billy Almeyda to win at #1 doubles 8-1. Andrey Vasiliev also posted a 6-3, 6-1 win in second singles action.

The Knights improved to a perfect 7-0 in the spring with a 9-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The win was also their first in conference play in 2006.

Wojciech Stuchlik beat Jeff Boyle of STAC 6-0, 6-1 in first singles to lead the Knights. Stuchlik has now won ten straight and 14 of his last 15 matches at the one spot.

The Knights improved to 6-0 in the spring with a 7-2 win over #35 Assumption College on Friday in Flushing. Queens won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles contests to record the victory.

In a battle of the 43rd ranked player and the 47th ranked player, #43 Wojiech Stuchlik came out on top with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #1 singles over Assumption's Michael Goldman. Stuchlik also teamed with Billy Almeyda to win at #1 doubles, 8-2 while Alfredo Perez and Jimmy Delevante posted a 8-6 win at third doubles.

Wojciech Stuchlik won in straight sets at the #1 singles spot and combined with Billy Almeyda to take the #1 doubles match as the Knight defeated NYU 6-3 in Flushing on Friday afternoon. With the win Queens is now 5-0 in the 2006 Spring season.

QC won four of the six singles match ups and two of three in doubles competition to secure the victory. Andrey Vasiliev won 6-2, 6-2 at the #2 singles spot while Ricardo Yepes posted a 6-1, 7-5 win at the three spot. Jimmy Delevante was the other Knight to win his singles match while Vasiliev and Yepes combined for the win at #2 doubles.

Knights' junior Wojiech Stuchlik rallied to defeat Concordia College's Rodrigo Teixeira 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to win the #1 singles title in the NYCAC Flight Championships held at Queens College on Sunday, February 26th. Stuchlik advanced to the finals by beating Dowling's Gustavo Sanchez - the top ranked player in the Northeast - in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

Down a break at 3-4 in the third set, Wojciech rallied to win the next three games from Teixeira to claim the championship. Stuchlik also combined with Billy Almeyda to defeat the team from Philadelphia University, 8-0, to win the #1 doubles title.

Queens made it two for two in the spring season by defeating Drew University, 9-0, on Friday afternoon in Flushing. Wojciech Stuchlik, Andrey Vasiliev, Ricardo Yepes, Costas Efstathiou, Jimmy Delevante and Boris Tchavouchian all won their singles matches.

The Knights got their spring season off to a good start with a 6-3 win over FDU-Teaneck on Friday in the Queens College Indoor Tennis Center. Queens took four out of six singles matches and two of three in doubles to secure the win.

Wojciech Stuchlik, who is currently ranked 43rd, won at #1 singles 6-1, 6-3 and combined with Billy Almeida at #1 doubles to win 9-8 (7-5). Almeida also won his #3 singles match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The Knights advanced to the NCAA Division II East Regional finals for the first time in their history by defeating Bloomsburg University 5-3 in Flushing on Thursday afternoon. Queens, who had lost in the first round in their previous four visits to the NCAA's, will face Concordia College in the Regional Finals tomorrow morning. The top seeded Clippers reached the championship game by defeating Dowling College 5-4.

With QC holding a slim 4-3 lead in matches won, Wojciech Stuchlik rallied from one set down to defeat Mike McGrath, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and send the Knights into the finals. Stuchlik had combined with Billy Almeyda to win at #1 doubles, enabling Queens to build a 2-1 edge in doubles play.

Like Stuchlik, Ricardo Yepes also dug himself out of an early hole to win his #3 singles match. Yepes trailed 4-1 in the first set before rallying to take that set 7-5 and the next 6-0. Jimmy Delevante provided QC with their other singles win, a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at #5. Delevante had trailed 5-2 in the second set before rallying to win.

Concordia College captured their 13th NYCAC championship in 16 years by defeating the Knights, 5-1, in Bronxville on Friday. Ricardo Yepes paired with Brian Leo to post QC's lone win at #2 doubles, 8-6.

The final score was not really indicative of the play in that most of the matches were hotly contested. Both of QC's doubles losses came by scores of 9-7 while Wojciech Stuchlik went three sets before falling in #1 singles.

Victories at the #1 and #3 doubles spots got the Knights off to a good start en route to a 5-3 NYCAC semifinal win over Mercy College in Flushing on Thursday. Queens now travels to Concordia College on Friday in a match that will decide the NYCAC Championship.

Wojciech Stuchlik and Billy Almeyda combined for an 8-5 win while Costas Efstathiou teamed with Jimmy Delevante to post an 8-2 win at #3 doubles to give the Knights a 2-1 lead entering singles play. Almeyda then won his #2 singles match and Ricardo Yepes and Brian Leo followed with wins at the #3 and #6 singles spots to clinch the win for QC.
