4/26/08

St. Thomas Aquinas College took a pair from Queens College, 4-3 and 11-5, in Sparkill, New York on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader loss wraps up the Lady Knights' 2008 East Coast Conference schedule.

A two run home run by Katie Miracco put QC ahead 2-1 after two innings in the day's first game. Nicole Mancusi added a solo shot in the fourth to extend the Lady Knights lead to 3-1, but STAC scored two in the fifth to tie and another in the sixth to go ahead for good and record a 4-3 victory.

QC used a three run second inning in the nightcap to jump out to an early advantage. Jill Rini singled and later scored on an error, Christina Colon drove in a run with a double and Katie Karpinski added an RBI single to account fot the three runs. St. Thomas Aquinas answered right back in the top of the third with three runs to knot the game and added two in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. Karpinski went three for four while Miracco and Rini each had two hits in four at bats for QC in a losing effort.

Katie Miracco drove in one run and scored the other in the Lady Knights' 2-1, game two win at C.W. Post College on Wednesday afternoon. The 11th ranked Lady Pioneers beat QC, 9-1, in five innings in the opener of the double dip.

Miracco's two out single, one of four hits for her in the game, drove home Sara Koumou in the top of the first inning for the first run of the nightcap. In the bottom of the inning, C.W. Post pushed across an unearned run against starter and winner Jessica Hicks to knot the game at one. The score remained that way until the sixth when Miracco doubled and scored the go-ahead run on a two out single through the right side by Samantha Stallone. Hicks made that run hold up by throwing two scoreless innings to post a six hit, complete game victory.

Danielle DiGioia doubled and was driven home by Koumou with QC's only run in a 9-1 loss in game one.

Sara Koumou drove in two runs in a four run fifth inning to help the Lady Knights to a 5-3, game one win over the University of Bridgeport in Garden City, New York. UB used two solo home runs to take the nightcap from QC, 2-1.

Katie Karpinski singled in Allison Castellucci, who had reached on an error, to tie game one at 2-2 in the fifth. Koumou followed with a double that drove home Karpinski and Bryttne Nelson to put her team ahead for good. Danielle DiGioia then provided a bit of insurance by doubling in Koumou with QC's fourth run of the inning. Nelson struck out eight in 6.1 innings to pick up the victory while Christy Sanders got the last two outs to earn the save.

Victoria Tenzyk led off the sixth with a solo home run and Tricia Lee did the same in the seventh in UB's 2-1 win in game two. QC rallied in the seventh when DiGioia and Laura Guzman singled and Castellucci drove in DiGioia with two outs but Castellucci was caught off of first base on the play to end the game.

Queens College overcame a two run deficit by scoring three in the sixth to win game one of a doubleheader against Post University, 3-2, in Old Westbury on Thursday. Post won the nightcap, 4-0.

Bryttne Nelson started the QC sixth inning rally with a base hit. Katie Karpinski followed with a single but after a Sara Koumou fly out to left, Nicole Mancusi forced Nelson out at third for the second out of the inning. With the pressure on, Danielle DiGioia singled in Karpinski with the Lady Knights first run and Katie Miracco followed by singling in Destiny Ocasio, who had pinch ran for Mancusi, to tie the score at two. Christina Colon then drove home DiGioia with the go-ahead run with an infield single. Nelson closed the door in the top of the seventh to record the win. Nelson struck out 12 while surrendering only one earned run in seven innings of work for QC.

The Lady Knights had two runners erased at the plate and stranded three others in scoring position in suffering a 4-0 loss in game two. Ocasio, who once again was running for Mancusi, was thrown out trying to score on a fly ball to right off of the bat of Jessica Hicks in the second frame and Hicks was nailed at the plate in the fifth on a ground out to account for QC's two best scoring chances of the game. DiGioia had a single and a double in three at bats for Queens College in the loss.

Katie Miracco led off the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap by hitting a pinch hit, walk off home run to give the Lady Knights a 5-4 victory over Adelphi University in Garden City, New York on Tuesday. QC dropped the opener of the doubleheader, 4-0.

Nicole Mancusi slammed a two run home run in the fourth inning of game two to break a scoreless tie. Adelphi answered by scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to open up a 4-2 lead but Mancusi blasted another two run homer in the bottom of the sixth to even the score. Bryttne Nelson held AU off the board in the top of the seventh, setting up Miracco's heroics.

QC was held to just three hits in losing the opener, 4-0. Katie Karpinski accounted for two of the hits while Danielle DiGioia doubled for the other. One run in the fifth and three in the sixth were all Adelphi would need in posting the victory.

Dominican College took two from the Lady Knights, 3-1 and 10-2, on Monday afternoon in Orangeburg, New York. QC was held to three hits in the opener and five hits in the nightcap.

Bryttne Nelson was the hard luck loser for Queens College in game one, allowing just one earned run and six hits in six innings. Dominican scored an unearned run in the fourth to take the lead and added two more insurance runs in the sixth, one on a solo homer and the other unearned. Sara Koumou provided all of QC's offense in the seventh with a solo home run.

Sue Hurley singled and scored on a Nelson home run in the third inning of the second game to give the Lady Knights a brief 2-1 lead. DC responded with four in the third and four more in the fourth to break the game open. Nelson finished the game with two hits and two RBI's in three at bats.

The Lady Knights were limited to four hits by the University of New Haven in losing, 6-0 and 4-0 on Saturday in Connecticut. The losses drop QC to 11-21 overall and 5-7 against East Coast Conference competition.

UNH jumped on the Lady Knights early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning in the opener. Katie Karpinski had the only hit for Queens College in the 6-0 loss.

New Haven scored all of the nightcap's runs in the second, putting up a four spot in a 4-0 decision over QC. Katie Miracco's seventh inning double was one of three hits for the Lady Knights.

4/10/08

Pace University defeated Queens College twice in their last at bats, 5-4 in nine innings and 4-3, in Briarcliff on Thursday. Bryttne Nelson had three hits in the first game and Nicole Mancusi drove in three runs in the nightcap for the Lady Knights.

Nelson doubled and scored on a Allison Castellucci single in the second inning of the opener to give QC a 1-0 lead. Pace answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth off of starter Christy Sanders, who fanned 10, to jump out on top 2-1. Nelson and Castellucci both scored on Pace fielding errors in the sixth as QC retook the lead but Christina Pace of Pace hit a one out home run in the bottom of the seventh to knot the score at three. Pace won the game in the ninth with three singles, the last to right center by Patricia Hurley.

In the fourth inning of game two, Mancusi doubled in two runs and later scored on a Danielle DiGioia single to open up a 3-1 advantage. PU came right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs to even things up at three. Mancusi once again gave QC a lead, this time by singling in Castellucci in the seventh, but, once again, Pace came right back in the bottom of the frame to tie on a Sarah Meleney homer. They weren't done, however, as Amanda Dague singled and later scored the winning run on a Lady Knights error.

The Lady Knights dropped a pair of non-conference games to Caldwell College, 9-1 and 10-0, in New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon. QC if off until Saturday when they travel to New Haven for a doubleheader.

Allison Castellucci doubled in Christina Colon, who had singled, in the second inning of game one with the Lady Knights only run of the day. Sara Koumou, Nicole Mancusi, Colon and Castellucci were all one for two in the opener. Mancusi also went two for two in the nightcap.

Dowling College defeated Queens College, 3-2 and 5-1, in Oakdale, New York on Tuesday afternoon. The losses drop the Lady Knights to 11-15 overall and 5-5 in the East Coast Conference.

QC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game on an RBI single by Danielle DiGioia. After Dowling scored a run in the fourth the Lady Knights came back with one of their own in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Katie Karpinski's two out single scored Allison Castellucci with that run. Stephanie Plochochi's two out RBI single capped a two run Dowling rally in the sixth and proved to be the game winner in their 3-2 victory.

In the nightcap Sara Koumou slammed a solo homer in the fourth to tie the game at one. Dowling broke the deadlock with three in the fifth and one in the sixth on their way to a 5-1 win. DiGioia and Castellucci each went two for three, accounting for four of the Lady Knights' five hits.

The Lady Knights split a pair with 16th ranked Georgian Court University on Thursday afternoon in Old Westbury, New York. GCU won a pitchers duel, 1-0, in the opener while QC won a slugfest in the nightcap, 11-6.

Stephanie Cuevas hit a one out, pinch-hit home run in the top of the sixth for the only run of Georgia Court's game one victory. Samantha Sasko surrendered just four hits and struck out 11 Lady Knights in out-dueling Christy Sanders, who fanned nine while giving up only three hits for QC. Katie Karpinski had two of QC's four hits in the loss.

The Lady Knights exploded for nine runs in their half of the second inning en route to an 11-6 win in game two. The inning was highlighted by two home runs - a grand slam by Katie Miracco and a two run blast by Jillian Rini. Bryttne Nelson pitched five and a third innings in relief of Jessica Hicks to pick up the victory for Queens College.

Sara Koumou provided the offense in game one and Bryttne Nelson supplied the pitching in game two as the Lady Knights swept Mercy College, 4-2 and 5-0, in Dobbs Ferry on Wednesday afternoon. The wins helped QC improve to 5-3 in ECC play.

Koumou was two for four with two runs scored and 2 RBI's while teammates Nicole Mancusi, Christina Colon and Nelson each were two for four in the opener. QC trailed 2-0 after five before rallying to tie the game with a pair in the sixth. Mancusi started the rally with a single and moved to third on a Koumou double before scoring on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Sue Hurley tied things up with a sac fly, scoring Koumou. The Lady Knights' third baseman struck the game's deciding blow in the seventh by homering with one aboard to win it for QC, 4-2.

Nelson was the star of the nightcap, tossing a complete game, five hit shutout in a 5-0 Lady Knights victory. Christina Colon was two for three in the win.

QC got her all the runs she would need in the third when Hurley doubled, moved to third when Nelson helped herself with a single, and scored on a wild pitch. Nelson later scored on an out made by Koumou.

Katie Karpinski beat a throw from the second baseman to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Queens College a 4-3 win over Assumption in the second game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader in Old Westbury, New York. Assumption won the opener, 4-1.

Karpinski had led off the seventh with a single and moved to third on a ground ball double up the first base line by Danielle DiGioia. Nicole Mancusi was then intentionally walked, sending Sara Koumou up to the plate. Koumou hit a sharp grounder to the second baseman, who bobbled the ball before throwing late to the plate.

The Lady Knights had broken a 1-1 tie with two in the third. Mancusi and Koumou each had RBI singles in the frame. Assumption tied the game with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh on a lead-off double by Amy Gordon and a two out single from Amanda Monge. Bryttne Nelson, Allison Castellucci, Karpinski, Koumou and Mancusi all had two hits for QC in the win.

The Lady Knights had lost the opener, 4-1. Their lone run came in the fourth when DiGioia doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Koumou double..

3/26/08

The bats were alive but the arms didn't hold up their end of the bargain as Queens College dropped a pair at Molloy College, 10-3 and 10-8 (in 8 innings) on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Knights pounded out 21 hits in the doubleheader.

Molloy jumped to a quick lead in the opener, scoring three times in the first and four more in the second. Doubles by Sara Koumou and Danielle DiGioia and a single from Nicole Mancusi in the third cut the Molloy lead to 7-3 but that's as close as QC would get in a 10-3, game one loss. DiGioia and Mancusi each went two for four with an RBI in the loss.

In the nightcap, a run in the first and four in the second put the home team ahead 5-0. The Lady Knights answered with two in the third and five more in the third, highlighted by a three run double by Sue Hurley, to go ahead, 7-5. The lead was short lived as Molloy pushed across four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-7 lead. QC scored a run in the fifth and then, in the seventh, Christina Colon doubled, moved to third on a fly out, and scored on an error to knot the game at nine. Molloy ended things in the eighth when Alexandra Sydor plated the winning run with a one out, walk-off double.

The Lady Knights split a pair of league games at NYIT on Tuesday with Tech winning the first, 1-0 and QC rebounding to take the second, 5-1. Two long streaks came to an end in the doubleheader - Danielle DiGioia's hitting streak was stopped at 12 games in the opener and NYIT's 10 game winning streak was put to rest in the nightcap.

Nina Cesare outdueled Christy Sanders in NYIT's 1-0, game one victory. Annel Sanchez accounted for all of the scoring when she led off the bottom of the first with a double, moved to third on an error on third baseman Sara Koumou, and scored on a passed ball. Cesare limited QC to four hits, two of which came off of the bat of Nicole Mancusi. Sanders was the hard luck loser, striking out six in six innings of work.

Jillian Rini had two hits and two RBI while Mancusi had three more hits to power the Lady Knights to a 5-1 win in the nightcap. Mancusi started a three run second inning rally with a double and Rini finished it with a two run, two out single to give QC the early advantage. Katie Miracco singled in Christina Colon (two for two in game two) in the fifth and Colon singled in Rini in the sixth to account for the rest of QC's scoring on the day. Starter Jessica Hicks evened her record at 3-3 with 4 2/3 innings of five hit ball.

Jessica Hicks drove in six runs in a 12 run second inning and scattered five hits over five innings of work to lead the Lady Knights to a 14-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader aginst Bloomfield College. Bloomfield shook off an early QC rally to take game one, 9-4, in Old Westbury on Good Friday.

Hicks had a bases loaded triple and a three run home run in the Lady Knights second inning explosion in the nightcap. Bloomfield had opened the scoring with a run in their half of the firtst on a lead-off walk, a sac bunt, a ground out to short and a two out single. Sara Koumou finished the game with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI in three at bats. Katie Miracco and Nicole Mancusi also had two hits for QC.

The Lady Knights started the day out right by pushing across four in the first inning of the opener with Miracco capping the outburst with an RBI single. BC answered back with two runs in the third and took the lead by scoring four times in the fourth off of Lady Knights starter Bryttne Nelson. A picket fence in the fifth, sixth and seventh made the final BC 9, QC 4.

Danielle DiGioia had two hits in game one and another in the nightcap to extend her hitting streak to 12 games.

Katie Karpinski was seven for nine with six RBI to lead the Lady Knights to a doubleheader sweep of Concordia College, 8-2 and 12-4, on Tuesday afternoon in Old Westbury. Danielle DiGioia added three hits and extended her hitting streak to 10 games as QC kicked off their ECC schedule with two victories.

Bryttne Nelson made her first start of the season in game one and pitched a three hit complete game to pick up the win. The Lady Knights gave her an early cushion, scoring three in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Karpinski, DiGioia and Nelson herself. Alex Mazza got two runs back for Concordia with a two run homer in the fourth but QC answered in their half of the inning with four runs of their own to put the game away. Karpinski, Nelson, DiGioia, Nicole Mancusi and Allison Castellucci all had two hits in the win.

In the nightcap, Concordia touched up starter Christy Sanders for two in the first to take a short lived lead. QC responded quickly scoring twice in the first and second and four times in the third to take command. A pair of runs from Concordia in the fourth got them back within four but QC ended the game by rule when they tallied four times in the sixth to open up 12-4 lead.

Karpinski was on fire at the plate in game two, going five for five with five RBI for QC. Mancusi also two singles, a double and two RBI while Castellucci had a single and a double in four at bats to help Sanders to her third win of the season.

The Lady Knights and Concordia split a pair of non-conference games on Thursday in Clermont, Florida in QC's second day of their Florida trip. A game one marathon was won by the Lady Knights in 9 innings, 6-5, while Concordia responded to win a rain delayed game two, 9-5.

Christine Colon tripled in two runs in a three run third inning that put the Lady Knights ahead 4-1 in the opener. Colon scored the third run of that inning on a Danielle DiGioia single. Concordia struck back with three in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at four. It would stay that way until the top of the eighth when Katie Miracco squeezed home DiGioia to give QC a short lived lead as Concordia answered with a run in their half of the eighth to knot the score at five. In the top of the ninth, Katie Karpinski drove in Allison Castellucci with a two out single in the ninth to give QC the lead for good as Christy Sanders closed out the game to pick up her second win of the season. Sanders struck out 11 in going the distance for the Lady Knights.

In game two, Concordia banged out 17 hits in a rain delayed 9-5 victory. Queens College took an early 2-0 lead in the first before the rains came. After a one hour delay Concordia took control, roughing up Lady Knights starter Allison Castellucci for four runs and seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Christina Colon continued to be hot at the plate with three hits in five at bats while Katie Miracco was four for four as her team left 11 runners on base in the loss.

Christy Sanders pitched a complete game one-hitter as the Lady Knights opened 2008 with a 8-0 victory over Ohio Valley University in Clermont, Florida on Wednesday morning. Later in the day, Danielle DiGioia and Nicole Mancusi provided the QC offense in a 5-3 loss to Nova Southeastern. DiGioia had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored while Mancusi drove in two in the loss.

Sanders was in complete control all of the way, fanning nine and allowing only two base runners - one on a second inning single, the other on an error - in a game stopped by rule after six innings. QC got on the board in the first with the help of three walks and a wild pitch. They broke the game open in the second, scoring six runs in the frame on five hits, including RBI singles from Katie Karpinski and Katie Miracco and an RBI double by Nicole Mancusi. The Lady Knights pounded out 10 hits in the contest, with two apiece from Karpinski, Mancusi and freshman Sara Koumou.

In the second game of the day, Nova jumped on QC starter Jessica Hicks early with Brittney Lamb's two out, two run double capping a three run top of the first. The Lady Knights answered right back when Samantha Stallone, who led off with a single, scored on a sac fly by DiGioia to get her squad on the board. QC pulled to within a run in the fourth when DiGioia doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out to second off of the bat of Mancusi.

The Lady Knights found themselves back behind the eight ball after Nova Southeastern added two runs in the fifth to go ahead 5-2. A seventh inning QC rally fell short, with DiGioia singling, moving to second on a passed ball and scoring on a Mancusi single before pinch hitter Jill Rini popped out to the catcher and Koumou hit into a 5-4-3 double play. The seventh inning single by DiGioia capped a day in which she reached base successfully in all six of her at bats.

The University of New Haven defeated Queens College, 7-3, in the ECC Softball Championship Tournament on Saturday morning at C.W. Post. The loss was the Lady Knights' second of the double-elimination tournament, thus ending their championship aspirations.

The Lady Knights were their own worst enemies in the first inning against UNH, committing three errors that led to three unearned runs. New Haven added single runs in the second and third innings to increase their lead to 5-0. The Lady Knights answered back in the bottom of the third when Lucy Oswald hit a three run, two out, home run to pull her team within two runs. That's as close as they would get as UNH added a run in the fourth and one more in the seventh for a 7-3 victory.

Oswald was two for three and Katie Miracco went two for two with a run scored for Queens in a losing effort.

The Lady Knights split their first two games of the 2007 East Coast Conference Softball Tournament on Friday at C.W. Post. Adelphi University beat Queens, 6-3, in the winner's bracket in QC's second game of the day. The Lady Knights had advanced into the winner's bracket when Nicole Mancusi delivered a one-out RBI single in the top of the eighth to give the Lady Knights' a 4-3 win over NYIT in the opener of tourney. Queens next faces UNH at C.W. Post tomorrow morning, starting at 10:00 am.

Katie Karpinski doubled in Jay Henck and later scored on an error to give Queens a 2-0 lead before Adelphi had come to bat. That lead quickly evaporated as AU roughed up starter Christy Sanders for five in the bottom of the first. The two teams exchanged runs in the fourth and that ended the scoring in a 6-3 Adelphi victory. Karpinski was three for four and Allison Castellucci had two hits for QC in the loss.

Earlier in the afternoon, New York Tech struck first to take a 1-0 lead on a Courtney Palma solo home run in the bottom of the first. Queens pulled even in the third when Katie Miracco scored on a single by Danielle DiGioia but New York Tech answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. QC rallied once again with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on sac flies by Miracco (driving in Castellucci) and Lucy Oswald (plating Jay Henck), respectively, to tie the game, 3-3. The contest remained tied until the eighth when Patti Cronin and Castellucci both singled with one out to set the table for Mancusi's game winning RBI single to right center.

Freshman hurler Chrsity Sanders went the distance to pick up the win, scattering seven hits while surrendering just two earned runs in the 4-3 win. Mancusi, Miracco and Tonianne Campuzano each had two hits and DiGioia went three for four to pace the Lady Knights' offense.

East Stroudsburg quieted the Lady Knights' bats in shutting them out, 1-0 and 6-0, in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. Queens now moves on to the postseason where they will face fourth seeded New York Tech in the East Coast Conference Tournament on Friday at 2:00 pm on the campus of C.W. Post. If QC wins, they will play the winner of the Dowling / New Haven game at 4:00 pm at Adelphi. If they lose, they will play at Adelphi on Saturday morning, with the first pitch scheduled for 10:00 am.

In the first game of today's double dip, Christy Sanders and Kristen Halvorsen hooked up in a pitcher's duel that was scoreless until Candice Pastor's two out single in the eighth gave ESU a 1-0 lead. QC mounted a rally of their own in the last half of the inning when pinch hitter Lucy Oswald singled, Tonianne Campuzano singled and Jay Henck reached on an error to load the bases, all with one out. Unfortunately for Queens, the rally died when Oswald was forced out at the plate, shortstop to catcher, on a fielder's choice off of the bat of Katie Karpinski and Danielle DiGioia struck out to end the game.

In the nightcap, Crissy Wontroba hurled a no-hitter in East Stroudsburg's 6-0 win. The big blow of the game was a three run homer by Jen Veronesi in the third inning that put her club 5-0.

The Lady Knights pounded out 11 hits in a 7-4 win in the first game of a twin bill at the University of Bridgeport. They could have used a few of those hits in the second game in a 1-0 loss.

Rita Limitone's two run home run highlighted a four run Queens College rally in the sixth that wiped out a 3-0 deficit. They added three more in their next at bat to open up a four run bulge on their way to a 7-4 win. Katie Karpinski had three hits, Patti Cronin was two for three with two RBI's and Lucy Oswald had two hits and an RBI for Queens in the victory.

Ashley DiGeorge of Bridgeport led off the bottom of the first of the nightcap with a double and scored the game's only run on an error in UB's 1-0 win. Jessica Hicks was the hard luck loser for QC as she surrendered just two hits over six innings of work while striking out four. Nicole Mancusi had the Lady Knights only two hits of the game.

First place C.W. Post defeated the Lady Knights, 8-0 and 8-2 in East Coast Conference action on Senior Day in Flushing. Queens is scheduled to wrap up their regular season schedule with a doubleheader in Bridgeport on Saturday.

Tonianne Campuzano broke up a no hit bid by Post's Samantha Yodowitz by leading off the fifth inning of the opener with a single. It turned out to be QC's only hit in a 8-0 loss. Post had opened the scoring with a run in the fourth before sending 10 batters to the plate in a six run fifth.

In game two, Rita Limitone slammed a solo home run to left to get the Lady Knights on the board in the second. A Danielle DiGioia double that pushed across Campuzano in the sixth accounted for Queens' other run in a 8-2 loss.

Queens College completed a stretch of five doubleheaders in five days by sweeping conference rival Molloy College, 7-6 and 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon in Flushing. The Lady Knights finished this stretch with six wins and four losses overall and a three and one record against ECC foes.

A three run blast by Danielle DiGioia and a two run inside the park home run from Allison Castellucci, both in the first inning, got QC off to a 5-1 lead in game one. That lead held up until the sixth when Molloy rallied to score three times to make the score 5-4. The visitors from Rockville Centre weren't done though, as they scored two more in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. However, that lead was short lived as DiGioia singled in Tonianne Campuzano with the tying run and Lucy Oswald sent DiGioia home with the game winner with a triple to give QC the opener in dramatic fashion, 7-6. DiGioia finished the game with three hits and four RBI while Christy Sanders picked up her 12th win of 2007 for the Lady Knights.

In the nightcap, Queens scored three times in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to record a 9-1 win in five innings. Jay Henck led the way with two hits and four RBI, including a three run blast over the fence in left center to put Queens up 6-1. Jessica Hicks scattered six hits in earning the win for the Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights and New York Tech remain tied for fourth place in the East Coast Conference standings with identical 8-6 records after splitting a twin bill in Flushing on a beautiful Monday afternoon. Queens used last inning heroics to take the opener, 5-4 while NYIT rebounded to win game two, 6-2.

QC drew first blood when Katie Karpinksi (two hits, 1 RBI) singled in Kris Cirillo with the game winner with two outs in the seventh inning of the first game. Cirillo entered the game as a pinch runner for Danielle DiGioia, who had singled with one out. Cirillo proceded to steal second and came around to score on Karpinski's hit. Patti Cronin's two hits included a two run double in the third to pull QC to within one run at 4-3. Lucy Oswald also had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Knights.

NYIT jumped out in front in the nightcap with two runs in the second frame en route to a 6-2 win. The visitors added one in the sixth and three insurance runs in the seventh before Jay Henck got Queens on the scoreboard in their last at bat with a two RBI double. Danielle DiGioia had a single and a double in three at bats for the Lady Knights in the game two loss.

Danielle DiGioia drove in the winning run for the Lady Knights in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Bloomfield College on Sunday in Flushing. Queens won game one, 3-2 in eight innings and followed that up with a 6-5 win in game two.

DiGioia's bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth plated Katie Miracco with the game winning run in the opener. The Lady Knights had loaded the bases on three consecutive singles by Miracco, Tonianne Campuzano and Jay Henck. Christy Sanders went the entire way to pick up the victory, scattering five hits and striking out five in the process. DiGioia, Campuzano and Lucy Oswald each had two hits for QC in the win.

In the nightcap, Sue Hurley led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. She then stole second and, with two outs, scored on a DiGioia double to break a 5-5 deadlock. Allison Castellucci, who relieved Jessica Hicks in the third, closed things out in the seventh for QC in their 6-5 win. Hurley, DiGioia, Henck and Katie Karpinski all had two hits for Queens in this game.

The Lady Knights bats went silent as they dropped a pair to Assumption College, 5-0 and 9-1, in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday. Queens was held to three hits in the opener and five in the nightcap.

Doubles by Tonianne Campuzano and Danielle DiGioia and a single by Katie Miracco were all the offense that QC could muster in a game one, 5-0 loss. Assumption built their lead with single runs in the second and third innings and later added three insurance runs in the sixth.

The Lady Knights took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two when Lucy Oswald singled, moved to second on a sacrifice by Nicole Mancusi, and scored on an error. Assumption immediately tied the game in their half of the inning and broke the tie with two more in the fifth. Oswald was three for three with a double for Queens in the loss.

Patti Cronin got the big hit for Queens in their game two, 6-2 win in a doubleheader split with Pace University on Friday in Flushing. The visitors took the opener, 4-0.

Cronin lined a two out, bases loaded double to left field to break a 1-1 tie in the third inning and give the Lady Knights a 4-1 lead. QC added single runs in the fifth and sixth and Jessica Hicks scattered 10 hits in a 6-2 victory. Cronin, Allison Castellucci and Tonianne Campuzano each had two hits for QC in the win.

Carolyn Krause of Pace kicked off the day's festivities by hitting a lead-off home run and that was all the visitors would need as they cruised to a 4-0, game one win. A Cronin lead-off single in the third and a lead-off single from Danielle DiGioia in the seventh were the only hits for Queens in the loss.

The weather finally cooperated and, after a five day lay-off, the Lady Knights returned to action and swept a doubleheader at Post University in Connecticut, 7-1 and 4-1. Christy Sanders picked up the win in game one and Jessica Hicks was the winner in game two for QC, who improved to 12-14 on the season.

Allison Castellucci singled in Danielle DiGioia in the second inning of the first game to stake Queens to 1-0 lead. The Lady Knights added three in the fifth and two more in the seventh, courtesy of Patti Cronin, who hit her first collegiate homer, a two run job, to account for the final runs in a 7-1 victory. Sanders struck out three and surrendered six hits in earning the win.

In the nightcap, Rita Limitone broke a 1-1 deadlock with a two run home run in the fourth and QC went on to win, 4-1. Jessica Hicks gave up three hits and an unearned run in hurling a complete game and Tonianne Campuzano was two for four as QC completed the sweep.

The Lady Knights and St. Thomas Aquinas College split a twin bill on Friday afternoon in Flushing. Queens held on for a 9-8 win in the opener while STAC rode the momnetum from a game one rally that fell a bit short to take the nightcap, 10-2.

QC built a 9-0 lead through five and a half innings with three hits and an RBI each from Patti Cronin and Lucy Oswald and two hits and two RBI apiece from Jay Henck and Katie Miracco. STAC chipped away at the lead with three in the sixth and then, with two outs in the seventh, scored five runs to pull within one. However, Lady Knights hurler Christy Sanders induced a pop up to short for the last out and a 9-8 victory.

In game two, Jay Henck tripled in Tonianne Campuzano and then scored on a passed ball to knot the game at two in the third inning. STAC answered in their half with a run to take the lead and added three in the fourth and four more in the sixth for a 10-2 win.

Danielle DiGioia homered twice to give Queens a 4-2, second game victory at Concordia College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Knights lost the opener of the twin bill, 9-1.

DiGioia's second home run was a two run shot that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth. She had helped the Lady Knights to an early lead when she slammed a solo homer in the first inning. Christy Sanders picked up the complete game win for QC, striking out nine in the process.

Toni Campuzano continued her torrid hitting with two singles in three at bats in game one of the doubleheader.

The Lady Knights won a 15-9, game two slugfest to gain a doubleheader split with Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey on Monday. GCU won the first game, 9-3.

Tonianne Campuzano singled in Patti Cronin in the top of the sixth of the opener to pull QC within two at 4-2 but GCU responded with five in the bottom of the inning on their way to a 9-3 victory. Campuzano finished the game with three hits and an RBI while Cronin went two for three with a walk and an RBI and Danielle DiGioia added a solo home run for Queens.

The nightcap was tied at nine after four innings of play before Cronin singled in DiGioia in the fifth to put Queens up for good. The Lady Knights added one more that inning and four more in their next at bat to make the final score 15-9. Campuzano had three more hits, including a homer, and two RBI while Jessica Hicks and DiGioia each had two hits and three RBI in the win for Queens. Campuzano finished the double dip six for nine and is now 10 for 16 in her last four games.

Tonianne Campuzano went four for seven with three doubles, a triple and two RBI's but the Lady Knights were swept by homestanding Caldwell College, 9-3 and 8-7. The second game took nine innings to be decided.

Caldwell jumped on QC early, scoring four in the first and five more in the third on their way to a 9-3, game one victory. Campuzano was two for three with a double and a triple while Jay Henck, Sue Hurley and Nicole Mancusi had RBI's for Queens.

The nightcap was a back and forth affair in which the game was tied three times and the Lady Knights held leads of 1-0, 4-3, 6-4 and 7-6 before falling, 8-7 in nine innings. Jay Henck scored on an error in the top of the ninth to give Queens their last lead but Brittni Frantellizzi's one out single plated Danielle Genovese with the game winning run in the bottom half of the inning.

Lucy Oswald had three hits in five at bats and Campuzano had two more doubles and two RBI's for Queens in a losing effort.

Adelphi University swept a doubleheader from the Lady Knights, 8-0 and 9-2, in Garden City on Saturday afternoon. AU has now won all three meetings between the two teams in 2007.

Jay Henck's one out single in the top of the first was QC's only hit of the opener as they lost 8-0 in five innings. Lucy Oswald hit a two run home run in the fourth inning of the nightcap to pull QC within three but that was as close as they would get in a 9-2 loss. AU had jumped out to a big lead with five runs in the second.

Allison Castellucci and Christy Sanders each pitched complete games to help the Lady Knights sweep Mercy College, 7-2 and 4-2, in Flushing on Wednesday afternoon. Queens has now won six of eight since returning from the Rebel Games in Florida.

Castellucci scattered eight hits and struck out nine in the opener. Lucy Osawld had three hits, two RBI's, two runs scored and a double and Danielle DiGioia had two hits, including a double, and two RBI in the win. Jessica Hicks and Katie Miracco also had two hits for QC.

Sanders was one out away from a two hit shutout before her defense let her down in the Lady Knights' 4-2 win in the second game of the twin bill. An untimely error cost Sanders a shutout bid but she still picked up the win while striking out 12. Tonianne Campuzano hit a lead off homer to get QC started and Sanders tripled in Miracco in the second and scored on a Mercy error to put Queens up 3-0 after two frames. DiGioia added insurance for QC with an RBI double in the fourth.

The Lady Knights and Dowling battled to a doubleheader split in Flushing on Tuesday in which each game came down to the last batter. Dowling took the first game, 2-1 while Queens rebounded to win the nightcap, 7-6, in eight innings.

In the opener, Queens' Christy Sanders and Dowling's Jackie Rodgers hooked up in a pitcher's duel which remained scoreless through five. In the top of the sixth Tara Wallace knocked in Stephanie Compitello and Alison Gallagher with a one out double to give DC a 2-0 lead. Rogers made that lead hold up until Danielle DiGioia slammed a pinch hit home run to start of the seventh for Queens. Unfortunately for the home team that's all the offense they could muster and they lost, 2-1.

The nightcap was a seesaw affair that saw the Lady Knights jump out to a 2-0 lead on single runs in the second and third innings before Dowling responded with one in the fourth, three unearned runs in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh to go up 6-2. Queens rallied in the seventh to tie with the big blow coming off of the bat of center fielder Tonianne Campuzano, who smacked a one out, three run home run to pull QC within one run. Three batters later Lucy Oswald singled in Katie Karpinski and the game was all knotted up at six. After Christy Sanders, who picked up the win in relief of starter Jessica Hicks, retired Dowling in their half of the eighth, Campuzano struck again, singling with two outs to score pinch runner Sue Hurley with the game winner.

Freshman hurler Christy Sanders threw a one hit shutout to help Queens to a 2-0 win in game one of their doubleheader split against Dominican College on Sunday in Flushing. The Lady Knights dropped game two, 8-5.

Sanders retired the first 11 batters she faced before surrendering a single to Dominican's Sarah Beck. The only other DC batter to reach base was Cara Piasecki, who drew a one out walk in the sixth. QC's runs came in the fifth when Jay Henck singled in Patti Cronin and Katie Karpinski follwed with a double to plate Henck.

Dominican scored four runs in the fifth to break a 2-2 deadlock on their way to a 8-5 win in the nightcap. Allison Castellucci went three for four with two runs scored, Sue Hurley had two hits and two RBI and Katie Karpinski added two more hits but Queens was undone by four fielding errors in the loss.

The Lady Knights successfully opened up their 2007 home schedule by sweeping the University of New Haven 10-1 and 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Nicole Mancusi's two out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh provided the winning margin for Queens in game two.

Christy Sanders struck out seven in five innings of work to pick up the win in the opener. After surrendering a run in the top of the first, the Lady Knights responded with two in the bottom of the inning, five in the third and three more in the fifth to notch the 10-1, five inning victory. Leadoff batter Tonianne Campuzano set the table with two hits and three runs scored while Allison Castellucci drove in three and Lucy Oswald had two RBI in the win.

In the nightcap, QC took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the second but Jordanna Borska slammed a homer for UNH in the fifth to knot the game at one apiece. The Lady Knights reclaimed the lead on an RBI double by Danielle DiGioia in the sixth but UNH pushed across two in their half of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead. After a ground out by Campuzano, Jessica Henck got QC going in the last of the seventh with a triple. Katie Karpinski then singled to drive Henck home with the tying run. Lucy Oswald follwed with a single and Castellucci flied to right before Mancusi singled home Karpinski with the game winning run.

Nicole Mancusi delivered a two run double in the eighth inning to put the Lady Knights up for good in their 3-2 win last Saturday evening. Queens finished their trip to the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida with a record of 1-5.

Queens took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Lucy Oswald plated Rita Limitone with a two out single up the middle. Limitone had reached on a single and advanced on a sacrifice. Merrimack tied it with a run in the bottom of the sixth, setting up QC's win in extra innings.

Jessica Hicks went the whole way to pick up the win. Next up for the Lady Knights is Felician College on Thursday, March 22nd at Queens, weather and field conditions permitting.

Southern New Hampshire eliminated Queens from the NCAA Northeast Regionals 9-0 in Smithfield, Rhode Island on Monday morning. It was the third attempt at playing the game, with the previous two being postponed due to rain.

Ashely Bernstein hit a three run home run in a four run SNH first inning to doom the Lady Knights. They added three runs in the fourth and two more two innings later to take the 9-0, six inning victory.

Jessica Paparella was saddled with the loss, surrendering seven runs, none earned, in three innings of work. Nicole Mancusi and Erin Lynch had the only hits for QC in their season ending loss.

LeMoyne College defeated Queens 10-1 in the NCAA Northeast Regionals in a game which started on Friday and was completed on Saturday. Play was halted on Friday due to rain in the top of the second with LeMoyne leading 1-0.

When play resumed the Dolphins used an eight run second to break the game open. Patti Cronin and Allison Castellucci each had two hits for Queens.

Sixth seeded Queens College defeated host and third seed Bryant University 4-3 in the opening game of the 2006 NCAA Division II Northeast Regionals on Thursday. The Lady Knights now advance to the winner's bracket where they will face LeMoyne College, who defeated Adelphi 3-1, tomorrow at 3:00 pm, weather permitting.

Catcher Lucy Oswald got QC on the board first when she blooped a two RBI single to short center off of the glove of Bryant shortstop Amanda Gagne with two out in the top of the third, scoring Jay Henck and Patti Cronin. Erin Lynch, who went three for three, was in the middle of the Lady Knights' next two run scoring innings. She started the fourth with a single and, after Maria Scalisi sacrificed her to second, she came around to score on an error by Bryant catcher Jordan Dargon. In the fifth, Lynch singled home Oswald with two outs to give Queens a 4-0 lead.

That was a very important run because Lauren McNiff slammed a two out, bases loaded double to left center off starter and winner Victoria Forsythe in the bottom of the six to help Bryant close to within one run at 4-3. Jessica Paparella relieved Forsythe to start the seventh and, after walking two batters, fanned Victoria Duane to pick up the save and send the Lady Knights into the winner's bracket.

The Lady Knights' run for the NYCAC title ended when they were defeated by C.W. Post 8-0 in the championship round on Sunday in Brookville, NY. QC was limited to four hits in the loss. The Lady Knights' post season fate now lies in the hands of the NCAA Northeast Regional Softball selection committee.

Queens reached the championship game when Lucy Oswald's game winning single capped a late rally in a 4-3 Lady Knigts' win over Adelphi in the NYCAC Elimination Bracket Final at C.W. Post earlier in the day.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, the Lady Knights rallied for three runs to take the lead. Katie Karpinski led off the inning with a double. After Oswald popped out to short Jessica Paparella reached on a fielder's choice with Karpinski advancing to third. Erin Lynch followed with an RBI single with Sue Hurley, who ran for Paparella moving to third on the play. After a Maria Scalisi strike out, Nicole Mancusi doubled in Hurley and Lynch to cap the rally.

Adelphi pushed a cross a run in the top of the seventh to tie the score at three. In the bottom half of the inning Jay Henck, who was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Patti Cronin. Karpinski, who was three for four in the game, followed with a single with Henck advancing to third. Oswald then ended the game by singling home Henck with the winning run.

The Lady Knights advanced to the NYCAC Tournament Elimination Bracket Final by defeating New Haven 6-5 and St. Thomas Aquinas 5-3 on Saturday at Adelphi. Queens will face Adelphi at C.W. Post on Sunday morning at 10:00 am with the winner moving on to face Post for the NYCAC crown.

UNH tallied twice to forge a 5-5 tie on a seventh inning double by Jessica Medina in the first game of the day for Queens but the Lady Knights prevailed in the eighth when Maria Scalisi singled in Lucy Oswald with the game winning run with two outs. Later in the day Jay Henck homered to ignited a four run fourth inning against STAC in QC's 5-3 win. Henck, Oswald and Jessica Paparella each had two hits for QC while Victoria Forsythe picked up the victory in relief.

Big innings were the order of the day as the Lady Knights defeated STAC 9-0 before losing to Adelphi 8-0 in the first day of play in the NYCAC Tournament at Adelphi. Queens used an eight run fifth inning to beat STAC but were on the wrong end of a seven run third in losing to Adelphi.

Victoria Forsythe earned the win over STAC by scattering five hits and striking out six in five innings of work. Erin Lynch homered for the Lady Knights and Lucy Oswald drove in two in the win.

QC will face New Haven in an elimination game at Adelphi on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. If they win Queens will take the field at noon at Adelphi against the winner of the Dowling / STAC game.

The Lady Knights tuned up for the upcoming conference playoffs by splitting a doubleheader at Pace on Wednesday. Queens jumped out to an early lead to win the opener 6-4 before losing the second game 2-1.

Jessica Paparella hit a two run home run in the first to post QC to an early 2-0 lead in game one. The Lady Knights tacked on three more runs in the second on a two run single by Jay Henck and an RBI double by Jessica Hicks as they cruised to a 6-4 win. Paparella picked up the victory for Queens, her first of 2006.

The Lady Knights were held hitless in game two until Patti Cronin doubled in the top of the sixth. She was erased at the plate on a bunt by Paparella later in the inning but Lucy Oswald doubled and Erin Lynch singled in Sue Hurley, who ran for Paparella. That gave QC a short lived 1-0 lead because Pace answered with a run in the sixth to tie and another in the seventh to pick up the victory and salvage a split of the doubleheader.

Queens completed their 2006 NYCAC schedule with a 12-6 record after splitting a doubleheader at Dowling College on Tuesday. The Lady Knights lost the first game 4-2 before rebounding to win game two, 3-1.

Lucy Oswald doubled in Jay Henck in the first inning of the day to give QC a 1-0 lead in game one. They held on to the lead until Dowling scored four runs on five hits in the fifth to go up 4-1. Queens pulled to within two after a Henck double, a Patti Cronin single and a Katie Karpinski sacrifice fly but that was as close as they would get. Henck finished the game with three hits in four at bats.

NYCAC Pitcher of the Week Erin Lynch scattered five hits as she pitched her squad to a 3-1 win in the nightcap. Lynch surrendered a run in the first but Queens answered with two in the second and another in the fourth. Sue Hurley had the lone RBI for the Lady Knights in the 3-1 win.

The Lady Knights rode the arms of Victoria Forsythe and Erin Lynch to victory as each shut out Bridgeport 1-0 in Flushing on Friday afternoon. Queens has now won 14 of their last 16 games.

In the opener Forsythe held UB to six hits and no runs in eight innings of work to pick up her 10th win of the season. The Lady Knights scored the lone run of the game when Maria Scalisi singled, Jay Henck walked and Patti Cronin singled home Scalisi, all with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Erin Lynch also picked up her 10th win of the season on Friday. Lynch scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings in the nightcap as she outdueled her counterpart from Bridgeport, Ashley Larson and won, 1-0. Larson surrendered just five hits but three of them came in the sixth inning as Patti Cronin scored the only run of the game.

Lucy Oswald had four hits and four RBIs to help Queens to 5-3 and 6-0 wins over visiting Nyack College on Thursday in Flushing. With the wins the Lady Knights have now won ten consecutive games.

Oswald spotted QC to a 2-0 lead in game one when she doubled in Jay Henck and Patti Cronin in the first inning. Victoria Forsythe earned the victory by pitching a complete game five hitter.

Erin Lynch pitched the Lady Knights to a 6-0 victory in game two. Lynch went the distance in shutting out Nyack on five hits while striking out eight. Oswald had two more hits in this game, including a two run homer in the fourth inning. Patti Cronin added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for Queens.

The Lady Knights defeated NYIT in marathon doubleheader, 8-3 and 7-3, in Central Islip on Tuesday. QC has now won eight straight games and have climbed back over the .500 mark for the first time in 17 days.

Queens got on the board first on a third inning home run by Jay Henck and never looked back in a 6-3, game one win. Katie Karpinski had a big game for the Lady Knights with three hits, including a double and an RBI.

The long ball helped stake Queens to another early lead in the nightcap as Lucy Oswald plated three with a first inning blast. Henck had three more hits in this game while Karpinski and Patti Cronin each finished the day with four hits in eight at bats.

Queens started the day with a seventh inning run for a victory in game one and ended it with a 6-1 win in the nightcap to take a pair from Concordia College on Monday in Flushing. With the wins, Queens evens their NYCAC record at 5-5.

Erin Lynch's one out single scored Katie Karpinski with the winning run in the seventh inning in QC's game one 3-2 win. Victoria Forsythe pitched a complete game to pick up the victory and even her record at 7-7. Karpinksi was three for four in the game while Lynch, Lucy Oswald and Patti Cronin each had two hits for the Lady Knights in the opener.

Allison Castelluccci was the star of game two, going two for three with two RBI while hurling six innings of four hit ball to pick up the victory. Queens fell behind 1-0 early but rallied for three in the third and three more in the fourth to record the 6-1 win. Cronin was a perfect three for three with two RBI while Karpinski had two more hits and two RBI in the nightcap for QC.

Erin Lynch pitched a one hitter in the nightcap of a Queens College doubleheader sweep at Bloomfield College on Sunday. Queens rallied to win the opener 6-3 and never trailed in taking game two, 6-0.

Lynch struck out ten while surrendering only a first inning single to Kristen Bella in pitching QC to a 6-0 game two victory. Lucy Oswald supplied the offense for Queens by doubling in the game's first run in the third and connecting for a three run homer in the sixth.

Allison Castellucci provided the heroics in the first game when she drove in the tying and go ahead runs with a bases loaded single to left center in the sixth inning to put the Lady Knights ahead 4-3. Jay Henck went five for five with two doubles and an RBI and Victoria Forsythe scattered eight hits and gave up one earned run to pick up the complete game victory for Queens.

Jay Henck hit a tie breaking triple in game one and Erin Lynch struck out 10 in game two to key 5-2 and 2-1 victories of Hunter College in Flushing on Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader.

Henck's two RBI triple capped a three run, sixth inning rally that broke a 2-2 tie as Queens went on to a 5-2, game one win. Henck and Patti Cronin each collected two hits for QC while Victoria Forsythe struck out five in picking up the complete game victory.

In the nightcap, Sue Hurley singled and scored the tie breaking run in the sixth inning on an Erin Lynch single in a 2-1 win. Lynch, who went the distance for the victory, struck out 10 in the process while going two for three at the plate.

C.W. Post defeated Queens 2-1 and 4-0 in Brookville, New York on April Fools Day. Post pitchers limited the Lady Knights to just seven hits in the two games to help complete the doubleheader sweep.

Jill Fisher's home run in the fourth inning gave Post a 2-0 lead in game one. With two outs in the sixth, Jay Henck singled and Katie Karpinski doubled her home to cut the margin to 2-1 but Karpinski was stranded on second base and Queens went on to lose the opener. Victoria Forsythe was tagged with the loss despite surrendering only five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Sue Hurley had the Lady Knights other two hits.

The home team used a run in the second, two in the third and one more in the fourth to beat QC, 4-0, in the nightcap. Henck, Hurley and Jessica Hicks had the only hits for Queens in the loss.

The Lady Knights fought to the end but lost two to Caldwell College, 5-2 and 4-2, on Thursday afternoon in Flushing. Queens has now lost seven straight, four of which have come by two runs with two others two by three runs.

Nicole Mancusi put QC on the board in the first inning of game one when she singled in Katie Karpinski, who had started the rally with a one out double. The lead held up until the sixth when the visitors pushed across a run without the benefit of a hit to tie the game at one. The Lady Knights retook the lead in the sixth when Karpinski doubled in Henck but a double by Katie Jackson of Caldwell with two out in the seventh knotted the game at two apiece. Caldwell then rallied for three more in their half of the eighth to win the game, 5-2. Karpinski finished the game with three doubles in four at bats for Queens.

Caldwell opened the nightcap with two in the first and never trailed in a 4-2, six inning win. Queens pushed across two in the fourth to cut Caldwell's lead to 3-2 but could get no closer. Patti Cronin and Rita Limitone each doubled for QC in the loss.

The University of New Haven defeated the Lady Knights 4-1 and 7-0 in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. The losses drop Queens to 7-10 overall and 3-3 against NYCAC competition.

Queens broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning of the opener when Rita Limitone drove in Allison Castellucci to give the home team a 1-0 lead. That lead held up until the seventh when UNH pushed across four unearned runs to take the lead and the game, 4-1. In the nightcap, QC was limited to just one hit, a Nicole Mancusi single, in a 7-0 loss.

Dominican College took a pair from the Lady Knights by identical 4-2 scores on Sunday in Blauvelt, New York. Dominican improves to 12-6 on the season while Queens drops to 7-8.

Patti Cronin went two for three with an RBI and Nicole Mancusi drove in QC's other run in the game one loss. Victoria Forsythe gave up two earned runs in six innings of work and was tagged with the loss. In the nightcap, Jessica Hicks drove in the Lady Knights' only two runs of the game with a single in the sixth inning. Jay Henck went three for four to lead the QC offense in the loss.

Jay Henck scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Queens a 4-3, game one win in a doubleheader split with Assumption College. Assumption rallied to win the nightcap, 5-3, in eight innings on Saturday in Flushing.

Henck led off the home seventh with a single and was bunted over to second by Katie Karpinski, who had a single and double in three official at bats. Jessica Paparella and Allison Castellucci then walked (Paparella intentionally) before Patti Cronin got Henck home with a fielder's choice.

Nicole Mancusi got the ball rolling for QC with a solo homer in the second inning to put her team up 1-0. In the third Paparella singled home Henck to give Queens a 2-0 lead but Assumption tied the game with 2 in their half of the fourth. Jessica Hicks put the Lady Knights up 3-2 when she doubled in Mancusi, who led off the bottom of the inning with a double. Assumption came back once again, tying the game with a run in the seventh, setting the scene for the Lady Knights' heroics in their final at bat.

Queens led 1-0 in the sixth in the nightcap on the strength of a Katie Karpinski homer before Assumtion took the lead with two in the sixth. Karpinski responded by driving home Jay Henck with a single in the sixth before Korina Salafia hit a three run home run in the eighth to put Assumption up 5-2. Karpinski singled in Erin Lynch to pick up her third RBI of the game in the home team's half of the eighth but that was all QC could push across in losing, 5-3.

Katie Karpinski, Jessica Hicks and Jay Henck each went deep to help Queens to a 7-6, second game victory over Adelphi University in Flushing. Adelphi took the first game, 3-1 in NYCAC action.

The Lady Knights had eight hits and drew nine walks but left 16 runners on base in a losing effort in game one. Karpinski had two of QC's eight hits.

Karpinksi played a key role in game two with three hits, including a three run home run in the second to put the Lady Knights up 4-2. Adelphi's Jessica Vogt responded by connecting for a grand slam to give her team a 6-4 lead but Jessica Hicks slammed a solo shot to pull Queens within one and Jay Henck hit a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put QC up for good 7-6.

Victoria Forsythe and Erin Lynch each pitched complete game shutouts as the Lady Knights opened their NYCAC schedule by sweeping St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-0 and 7-0, in Flushing. Queens has now won four straight since returning from Florida.

Forsythe, who was named NYCAC Co-Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day, struck out seven and held STAC to one hit in her team's six inning game one win. Katie Karpinski, who was also honored by the conference before the game as their Player of the Week, had three hits and a home run while Jessica Paparella broke open a 2-0 game with a fourth inning grand slam in the opener.

Not to be outdone by Forsythe, Erin Lynch struck out ten in the nightcap to pick up the shutout win. Jay Henck and Lucy Oswald each went two for three with a home run to help Queens complete the doubleheader sweep of STAC.

The Lady Knights traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday and returned home with two wins after sweeping Holy Family, 4-1 and 2-1, in a non-conference doubleheader. The wins spoiled the re-opening of Holy Family's newly renovated Tiger Field.

In game one, Jessica Paparella led off the fourth with a solo home run to break a 1-1 tie. Paparella went three for four with a double, homer and three RBI to lead QC's offense in their 4-1 win. Victoria Forsythe scattered three hits and struck seven while giving up an unearned run to pick up the victory.

Katie Karpinski, who had three hits in four at bats, supplied all the offense the Lady Knights would need in the nightcap when she slammed a two run, first inning home run in a 2-1 victory. Starting pitcher Erin Lynch picked up the win for Queens and Forsythe got the save to complete the sweep.
