The third seeded Chargers of the University of New Haven defeated sixth seeded Queens College, 30-22, 30-14, 30-15 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2007 East Coast Conference playoffs. Ther Lady Knights, who have now seen their season end in the conference quarterfinals for the third consecutive year, conclude 2007 with a record of 13-14.

Enobong Shammah pounded out 14 kills in 19 attempts without a hitting error, good for a kill percentage of .737 in the loss. Freshman Shannon Kelly added a team high 12 digs while Marianna Megas handed out 24 assists for Queens.

For the second straight season, Karin Sauer and Natalie Edward have been named conference all-stars. As was the case in 2006, Sauer was picked for the first team and Edward was tabbed for the second team. Sauer was also named to the AVCA all-Region team.

Karin, a senior outside hitter from Schleiden, Germany, paced the East Coast Conference by averaging 4.80 kills per game. She also averaged 3.21 digs per game, placing her 7th in the ECC in that category.

Natalie finished third in the conference with a .310 kill percentage and an average of 1.01 blocks per game. The sophomore middle blocker from Castries, St. Lucia also ranked fifth with an average of 0.63 service aces per game.

Sixth seeded Queens battled NYIT to the bitter end but came away second best in a 30-25, 27-30, 30-25, 28-30, 9-15 loss in the NYCAC Quarterfinals. The Lady Knights finish the 2005 season with a record of 11-16.

Karin Sauer had a big afternoon for Queens with 31 kills and 15 digs while Rookie of the Year candidate Natalie Edward added 20 kills and four blocks. Dawn Richardson also dished out 61 assists while Milica Mrdak had 11 kills and 19 digs in a match that saw QC hold a two games to one lead before succumbing to the third seeded Lady Bears.
