A PARTIAL LIST OF THINGS YOU MUST KNOW
TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT QUEENS COLLEGE

W The W (withdrawal passing) grade has no effect on your GPA.  Students may withdraw from one or more classes per semester up to the end of the 8th week, during the fall and spring semesters.  Beginning with the 9th week until the last day of classes, students who wish to withdraw must request and may be granted permission via the Undergraduate Scholastic Standards Committee (USSC)
P/NC Students may select the PNC Option up to the end of the 8th week of the fall and spring semesters.  In order for the PNC to be activated students must attend classes up to the last day and final exams.  Passing grades (A+ to D) will be converted to P and the F to an NC.  Neither grade counts in the GPA.  If you stop attending classes you will receive a WU grade.  Only 21 credits may be taken under this option.

Both the W and PNC may be selected on line or via the telephone registration system.  For Summer Session please consult the Registration Schedule Guide for dates.
ABS The ABS must be requested by the student and is given at the sole discretion of the faculty, if the student is absent from the final exam and passing the course.  A final grade may be submitted based on the students work, even if the student is absent from the final exam. DO NOT REGISTER FOR THE COURSE AGAIN!  Contact the instructor, immediately, to arrange to take a make-up final exam by the last day of final exams, in the following semester, at which time the ABS will be converted to a FAB which counts as a failing grade in the GPA.  A make-up final exam fee must be paid to the Bursar in order to have the earned grade posted.
INC The INC must be requested by the student and is given at faculty discretion, only if the student is passing the course and is missing course work. DO NOT REGISTER FOR THE COURSE AGAIN!  Contact the instructor, immediately, to arrange submit the missing work which must be submitted by the last day of final exams, in the following semester, at which time the INC will be converted to a FIN (counts as a failing grade in the GPA.)
WU Assigned by faculty when a student stops attending class, before the last day of the semester; fails to complete the official course withdrawal steps.  The WU Is not covered by the P/NC and counts as a failing grade in the GPA.
LOA An official withdrawal from classes, which may be requested up to the last day of classes (before finals begin).  A W grade will be assigned to all classes, which does not count in the GPA.  The LOA must be applied for in the Counseling & Advisement Center, Frese Hall, 1st Floor.
REPEAT GRADES POLICY Upon repeating a course, only the last grade received will be counted in the GPA.  The previous grades will be noted by an @ and will remain on your official transcript. Students may only repeat a maximum of 16 credits.  Note: these @ grades may be counted when applying to transfer, graduate or professional schools thus lowering your Cumulative GPA
USSC A student may submit a written appeal to the USSC: (a) to register for additional credits; (b) to request late and retroactive course withdrawals; (c) for academic dismissals, ACT-CUNY and CPE dismissals; (d) to delay conversion of ABS/INC to FAB/FIN, respectively as well as any questions regarding the latest academic policies and procedures of the college.
