During my senior year at Brown University, where I earned my BA in English, I wrote two honors theses. One was a work of literary criticism; the other, a collection of poetry. In 2002, I began the doctoral program in English at the CUNY Graduate Center, but soon thereafter took time away to earn my MFA in creative writing (poetry) at NYU. My academic career has always been focused on these two contiguous pursuits: rigorous critical inquiry and lyric craftsmanship. My current doctoral research falls into the three broad categories of American women's writing, body scholarship, and trauma studies. As a CUNY Writing Fellow at Queen College, I aim to help students pursue their own academic goals through the medium of writing. Over the past six years I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of writing-intensive courses, including a creative writing workshop, an interdisciplinary academic writing workshop, and surveys of American literature. For the 2007-8 school year, I taught English at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. I hope to apply the knowledge I've gained through my previous teaching experience to the challenge of being a Writing Fellow, while acquiring new insight into the processes behind strong writing, as well as strong writing instruction. I look forward to working with students and faculty alike to enhance the efficacy, quality, and enjoyment of writing across the curriculum.
