Although I entered college unsure of my academic path, I quickly found that I was most interested by my classes in sociology. With the guidance and support of a few excellent faculty members, in 2000 I received a BA in Sociology with Honors from the University of Maryland. After a year as a substitute high school teacher in New Jersey, I returned to Maryland to pursue a Master’s degree in Sociology, which I received in 2003. I spent the next year and a half teaching at the University of Maryland’s University College and the Community College of Baltimore County before deciding to return to graduate school for my Ph.D.

At the City University of New York’s Graduate Center, I have continued to study sociology, focusing on mass media and consumer culture. Before becoming a writing fellow, I taught various sociology classes here at Queens and at Hunter College, including “Introduction to Sociology,” “The Sociology of American Life,” “Race and Ethnicity,” “Mass Media and Popular Culture,” and “Urban Sociology.” Although those classes gave me a good deal of experience with student writing, I’m currently learning the Writing Across the Curriculum perspective and the ways that Writing Fellows can help improve student writing across the CUNY system.

Outside of academia, I enjoy listening to music, playing guitar, hiking, and watching movies.
