Lorenzo Gigliotti

 

Things in Heaven and Earth: Lorenzo Gigliotti’s Documentary Videos

 

Director and writer Lorenzo Gigliotti will present his Italian-language documentaries of two Italian religious feste in honor of St. Paulinus of Nola and Our Lady of the Snow from Sanza.  These celebrations take place in the region of Campania and have their counterparts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

“Contemporary Italian American Women Authors and Post-ethnicity: Challenging Stereotypes and Questioning Affiliations”

 

Through the works of authors like Susanne Antonetta, Carole Maso, and Kym Ragusa, to name but a few, Alessandra Masolini will explore the ways in which contemporary Italian American authors and intellectuals challenge stereotypical notions of ethnicity, problematize easy affiliations, and open themselves to new transversal allegiances.

Are Italians White? How Race is Made in America, edited by Jennifer Guglielmo and Salvatore Salerno

 

This interdisciplinary collection of essays explores how, when, and why whiteness became important to Italian Americans, and the significance of gender, class, and nation to racial identity.  Contributors John Gennari,

Jennifer Guglielmo, Kym Ragusa, and Joseph Sciorra, will read and discuss their essays in a book forum chaired by Peter Vellon.

 

This event will take place at the Student Union Building, Room 301, Queens College Campus.
