'Evviva La Madonna Nera!'
Italian American Devotion to the Black Madonna

This exhibition explores the devotion of the Black Madonna (la Madonna Nera) in Italy and among Italian Americans. Curated by the Calandra Institute's Dr. Joseph Sciorra and designed by visual artist B. Amore, the exhibit consists of three triptychs(each are 21.5" x 39.5" opened) examining the themes of:

·         La Madonna Nera in Italy and Europe

·         La Madonna Nera in the New World

·         La Madonna Nera Rediscovered

Images and histories of La Madonna di Tindari, La Madonna della Libera, and Madonna dello Sterpeto, among others, are presented in a collage-like fashion.

This exhibit is designed to travel and is available to community organizations such as libraries, schools, and social clubs upon request, for the cost of shipping.

Please contact Francisca Vieira at (212) 642-2042 or fvieira@qc.edu to request a reservation.

This exhibition was made possible by generous grants from the office of New York State Senator Serphin R. Maltese and the Atlantic Philanthropic Service Company.
