This edition of
ITALICS joins in celebrating the
30th Anniversary of The John D. Calandra Italian American Institute at Queens
College of The City University of New York. We’ll also view “Kitty and Lucky: Photographs of my
Aunt Concetta and Uncle Augustine”, by Larry Racioppo at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum.

by Anthony Julian Tamburri, premieres on Wednesday, November 25th,
2009, at 10am, 3pm & 11pm. ITALICS can also be seen on Saturday,
November 28th, at 8pm, & on Sunday, November 29th,
at 10am on CUNY-TV, Ch.75 and RCN, Ch.77 in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens,
Staten Island, & The Bronx
First
on ITALICS, we join The John D. Calandra Italian American
Institute for the celebration of the Institute’s 30th
Anniversary. The event was hosted by Matthew Goldstein, Chancellor of CUNY,
James Muyskens, President of Queens College, John J. Calandra Esq., Son of
the Late Senator John D. Calandra, namesake of The Institute, and Anthony
Julian Tamburri, Dean and Executive Director of The Calandra Institute.
The
Honorable Mario Cuomo, Former Governor of the State of New York, and Matilda Raffa Cuomo, Former
New York State First Lady, were both honored by the Institute for their
lifetime of work and support for the community and education. Senator Diane
Savino was also honored for her many efforts in community affairs and
education in the New York State Senate and Legislature. Past Directors of The
Institute, Staff, Friends, and Family joined other distinguished members of
the Tri-State Italian American Community in the celebration of The Institute
and its contributions during its first 30 years. The Ceremony was held at the
offices of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP, in Mid-Town Manhattan.
Then
ITALICS takes you to see “Kitty
and Lucky, Photographs of My Aunt Concetta and Uncle Augustine”, by
Larry Racioppo. The Exhibition, “Kitty
and Lucky”, features 20 photographs taken over a period of thirty
years. The photographs not only provide insight into their relationship,
Kitty and Lucky’s were Mr. Racioppo’s favorite subjects
throughout their lives, but also into the development of Racioppo as
photographer and artist. “Kitty
and Lucky” will be on exhibition at the Garibaldi-Meucci
Museum, on Staten
Island, through January 6th, 2010.
