Charles Martin

Charles Martin is Chair and Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at Queens College and a photographer. His articles have appeared in many publications such as Black Renaissance, Genre and Modern Fiction Studies. His photographs, exhibited and published internationally, are part of such museum, public and corporate collections as The Museum of Modern Art, NY, Brooklyn Union Gas, the Museum of the City of New York, the Center for Photography at Woodstock and the Walter Heun Collection, and others. Martin's photos have appeared on television, CD liners and as book illustration.

Solo exhibitions in Paris, Brazil and the United States include Snug Harbor Cultural Center (2002), June Kelly Gallery (New York, 1999), University of Maryland (College Park, 1998), Queens College (1997), Staten Island Community Television Access Gallery (New York, 1997, 1996), Gordon Parks Gallery--the College of New Rochelle (New York, 1997), University of Wisconsin (Madison, 1996), and Henry Street Settlement (New York, 1996).

Group exhibitions include the Home Box Office (2002), Smithsonian Institution (now traveling) and the Brooklyn Museum of Art (2001). He regularly teaches “Representation, Photography, and Literature” and “Life Writing.”
