Christopher Winks

Christopher Winks (Ph.D., Comparative Literature, New York University; M.A., Poetics, New College of California; B.A., French, University of California, Berkeley) is a scholar of comparative modernisms, with particular emphasis on Caribbean and Latin American literature and African-American studies. He has taught at New York University (where he received an award for his teaching), Columbia University, Medgar Evers College/CUNY, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City). He has published numerous reviews and articles, as well as translations from French, German, and Spanish, in journals and anthologies. He was a founding editor of Black Renaissance / Renaissance Noire, a Pan-Africanist journal of culture and politics, and is currently completing a book, Golden Lands, Magic Cities: (Trans)Figurations of Utopia in Caribbean Literature. Future research plans include a study of exiled European artistic and political communities in Mexico during the 1940s and 1950s.
