Advanced literature courses in a language other than English:
- Courses must be completed in a language other than English, and in order to be approved,
the literature must be read in the original, not in translation.

Courses related to the culture of the student's foreign language specialization (from the above section) chosen with the approval of the Chair:
- These courses may be chosen from Anthropology, Art History, CMAL, ELL, HLL, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology.
- Readings may be in translation, but course work must be related to the culture of the student's foreign language study.

Approved electives in any literature:
- Courses must be above the level of CMLIT 101 and 102, and above ENGL 110 and 120. These courses may be chosen from CMLIT, CMAL, ELL, English, and HLL.
5 courses / 15 credits
Courses in Comparative Literature:
- One course in CMLIT above the level of 101 and 102.
- Two courses chosen from CMLIT 331-350, one of which must be CMLIT 331: History of Literary Criticism.
- Two advanced seminars from CMLIT 381-384 (all of which are offered as W).
