The Vocal Program
A private 30-, 45-, or 60-minute weekly lesson
A musicianship class
Chorus (required for all students enrolled in private lessons)
CPSM strongly recommends a minimum of one semester of choral singing
as a part of any child’s musical experience.
Voice lessons are available for students age 12 and older; acceptance
of younger students is decided on an individual basis. Students
will explore the basic fundamentals of coordinating the vocal mechanisms
of breathing and resonance through the experience of singing song
repertoire. Students will learn the joy of discovering their singing
voice in a healthy, supportive, and fun atmosphere.
Grace Notes is a singing class for children ages 4-6. This fun class will allow students to explore healthy singing techniques in a weekly meeting. Students will perform in our informal Saturday "mini-concerts" at least once a semester.
CPSM’s vocal program also features three choruses. The
is designed for children ages 7 to 11 years
old that are beginning to read and have a desire to learn how to
sing. Through children’s literature, the children will be
taught the fundamentals of good choral singing and vocal technique.
The Training Chorus is a program for children that love music and
love to sing. Come and join the fun!
Designed for children ages 12 to 17, the Advanced Chorus provides an excellent opportunity for vocal and ear-training development.
Through challenging repertoire, students will learn to sing two-
and three-part harmony. In addition to the two large-group performances
each year, students will be given the chance to perform small-group
and solo literature. Students must meet a minimum of level-three
In Opera Workshop, high school students (younger
students are accepted on an individual basis) are introduced to
the joys of opera. Excerpts from one opera per year are carefully
treated as students learn the basics of acting and opera singing
through the presentation of staged productions. Previous opera productions
have included scenes from The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute.
