The History Department believes that historical perspective is fundamental to understanding the world in which we live. To that end, it offers a great variety of courses to both majors and non-majors that explore both past and contemporary civilizations. The Department covers all areas of the world in all time periods, from ancient to modern, and covers all aspects of history.

History courses provide tools to do historical research, ways to analyze events from an historical perspective, and access to the rich body of information which is fundamental to the Liberal Arts curriculum.

The History Department encourages close contact between our faculty and students. Through Phi Alpha Theta (the History Honors Society) and the History Club, the students and faculty plan programs of interest to the students.
