Rita Mitsel, principal oboe of Symphony in C and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra, earned her doctorate at the Juilliard School. Mitsel has performed as a substitute in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Riverside Symphony, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Westchester Philharmonic, and in Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera. In 2003-2004 she held a position with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. As a soloist she performed with Orion String Quartet, Mannes Orchestra, and on Bargemusic, among others. She has recorded for Naxos with International Contemporary Ensemble. Rita holds a BM degree in oboe performance and a MM in oboe performance and music theory from Mannes College of Music. She studied with Elaine Douvas, Richard Dallessio, Eugene Izotov and Pedro Diaz.
