Course of Study for the Master of Music in Jazz Studies (MM)
Majors in jazz performance are required to take JAZZ 701 and 703; MUSIC 717, 718, 719, 755, and 756; three semesters of Jazz Ensemble; plus electives to total 36 credits. (All jazz course numbers are in the process of being changed from MUSIC prefixes to JAZZ prefixes.)
Majors in jazz composition are required to take JAZZ 701, 707, and 714; MUSIC 714, 715, 716, 755, 756, and 757; plus electives to total 36 credits. (All jazz course numbers are in the process of being changed from MUSIC prefixes to JAZZ prefixes.)
For jazz students, the schedule of courses is determined individually in consultation with the graduate advisor. Students who demonstrate advanced skills may be placed directly into advanced courses.
