Biography:
Christa Altenstetter is Professor of Political Science at
The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Graduate Center and Queens
College. Her teaching and research focus on the politics of
healthcare reform in comparative perspective, the European Union,
including European integration, and comparative public (health)
policy. She is currently working on a cross-national project
entitled the
Consequences of Globalization for Regulatory Policy on
Medical Devices: Bridging International and National Levels of
Policymaking in the European Union, Japan and the United States.
Professor Altenstetter is the author of numerous articles and books,
including
Medical Devices. European
Union Policymaking and the Implementation of Health and Patient Safety
in France (2008),
Health
Policy Reform, National Variations and Globalization (1997,
edited with James Warner Björkman),
Comparative
Health Policy and the New Right. From Rhetoric to Reality (1991,
edited with Stuart C. Haywood).
She is the founder of a Study Group (SG 19) on Comparative Health
Policy within the International Political Science Association (1982)
and later served as President of what became the IPSA Research
Committee 25 Comparative Health Policy (RC 25) until 2006 within the
International Political Science Association (IPSA). RC 25 established a
research link to the major international and national health databases and websites.
