All
internships require the keeping of a written journal, consisting of
daily entries recording your activities, thoughts, feelings and
observations. This journal should begin with the process of getting the
internship. The journal is to be handed in along with the final paper
at the end of the semester.
Requirements for the Three Credit Independent Study Version (Pol. Sci. 293 or 291)
*A fifteen page term paper, based on an outline supplied by the
instructor, which applies ideas drawn from assigned readings to the
internship experience.
*Readings specifically related to the content of the internship and
chosen in consultation with the instructor. Usually the equivalent of
one book.
*Attendance at one meeting of the city wide internship group at the
Graduate Center of the City University at 35th and Fifth in Manhattan,
usually on a Wednesday evening.
*A one page response paper based on the meeting.
*Eight hours per week or 120 hours total of internship work on a
schedule to be arranged in consultation with the internship supervisor.
Requirements for the Six Credit Independent Study Version (Pol. Sci. 298.6)
*A thirty page term paper, based on an outline supplied by the
instructor, which applies ideas drawn from assigned readings to the
internship experience.
*Readings specifically related to the content of the internship and
chosen in consultation with the instructor. Usually the equivalent of
one book.
*Attendance at two meetings of the city wide internship group at the
Graduate Center of the City University at 35th and Fifth in Manhattan,
usually on a Wednesday evening.
*Two one page response papers based on meetings.
*Sixteen hours per week or 240 hours total of internship work on a
schedule to be arranged in consultation with the internship supervisor
Requirements for Internship Classes, (Pol. Sci. 292, 295, & 296)
*A twenty-five page term paper, which applies ideas drawn from readings
done for the class and readings specially, assigned to the internship
experience.
*Readings assigned and discussed in class. Usually the equivalent of one book.
*Readings related specifically related to the content of the internship
and chosen in consultation with the instructor. Usually the equivalent
of one book.
*Attendance at seven class meetings usually held Wednesday, 2-5 pm.
*Timely and conscientious preparation of drafts of the sections of the term paper to be discussed in class.
*Attendance at two meetings of the city wide internship group at the
Graduate Center of the City University at 35' and Fifth in Manhattan,
usually on a Tuesday evening.
*Two one page response papers based on the city wide meetings.
*120, 150, or 300 internship hours, depending on the version of the course taken.
Term papers, journals and one page papers are due during finals week
and may be put in my departmental mailbox on a date to be determined.
Please do not e-mail papers. One page papers may be handed in earlier.
Drafts of papers may be handed in earlier for comments and revision,
but sufficient time must be allowed for this process to occur. Don't
hand in a draft a week before finals.
